696 valves in 695/800 heads

Has anyone done this?  The 696 valves are 44/38.5, vs 43/38 for the 695 and 800 heads.

Given that I've damaged my intake seat, would changing at least the intake valves for 696 ones be a goer?  I know the cams aren't interchangeable, but I could go to 1000DS cams and get almost exactly the same lift and duration as a 696, or even 900 cams for, well, more of everything...

I don't think the 1000ds cams will interchange as well as they are made simialr to the 696 cams.  I have also heard that the 900 cams have a smaller base circle so you would need very large shims to get them to work.  What about swapping a whole 696 head?  Other than the change in location for the ECU oil temp sensor that is a possible option.

ian has some 44 on ebay now - italsparesducati

if you run original cams you'll need to shorten them between the tip and collet groove i'd expect.

I can't speak for all 695s (the service manual says they're 8mm), but mine (07 model) are definitely 7mm.

696 heads are DS1000 style exhaust ports, so I suspect the 695 exhaust wouldn't fit.
But I haven't done it, so there you go.

696 intake is shown as 21010752B, ~$78 US, I was expecting about $100 more than that....

DS1k, all water-cooled Monsters, and all Monsters '07 and later are 7mm valve stems.

What's the difference with DS cams and ports?  Are the corresponding valves longer?  Shorter?  If they're longer, I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to machine them to length and put a new closer groove in them...

Gotta say, I'm loving this.  I checked my valves for runout this morning (I did it on our tool-room mill, with a 7mm collet), and they're between 0.02 and 0.04mm - Between that and the pitting, I'll just replace the lot.  For the exhaust, I think I'll stick with 695/800 ones, but for the inlets I think I'll go for 696 ones.  If they're unsuitable, I guess I could always just stick them on ebay.

DS/696/796/1100 heads have shorter exhaust ports, so the pipes are correspondingly longer, or thereabouts.

DS/696/796/1100 cams are plain bearing instead of ball bearing.
