09 Monster leaking greenish fluid on startup

Hello my fellow Monster lovers,

Just about a week ago, I noticed that upon the startup of my still fairly new 09 Monster (~2700 miles) a greenish fluid leaked out onto the pavement beneath the engine. It was similar to color of anti-freeze in a vehicle and I assume that's what it was. It did once after that when I started it to leave from work, and as far as I know, I haven't seen it since. Is this something I should get checked out, or could this be fairly normal? The weather has been fluctuating quite a bit recently, and I'm wondering if something similar to an O-ring could of expanded etc? Anyways, that being said, the bike after the couple thousand miles I've put on it, it seems to be running a lot better and smoother.

Any thoughts on the matter I'd be happy to hear.

Thanks

looked back through your posts to see you have a 696
since it's aircooled, you don't have coolant. Could it be a puddle from something that was there before your bike?

Spill gatoraid?

+1 to there's nothing in your bike of that color. Some oils like Royal Purple put dye in but that goes away and the oil becomes brown almost immediatly

I'm guessing that you have a sealed battery - if it wasnt I might hazard that acid came out of the drain and reacted with something on the ground. But can't happen with a sealed batt.

Really there's nothing bright green that can leak from an air cooled monster.
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

Hmmm, interesting. If it happens again, I'll make sure to take a pic of it.

motul 4v triple ester oil is green and stays so for a surprisingly long time.

So it certainly did sputter out some greenish tint liquid which I can only assume it has a bit of a leak. Only on startup will it do this... Take it in? It's still fairly new

Clean the engine and watch for leaks.  I'm thinking Lethe is probably correct.  What oil did you use in your last oil change?  If it is oil and the engine looks clean it is probably the filter.  If so, an extra third of a turn or so should work.

This would be my guess for what it is.

This would be my guess for where it's coming from. But as suggested, clean the engine and see if you can figure out where it's escaping. Aerosol foot powder can help you find the little leaks.

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

I took it down to the dealership and the mechanic believes it comes down to a "sensitive and typically touchy oil filter that was potentially tightened too much" he's gonna charge me $100 for a new filter and oil change/labor. Even though I had an oil change at 700 miles, now at 2800, is this normal? As a customer should I have this covered or fork the money over? I still plan on enjoying my trip around Lake Tahoe tomorrow ;) oil levels still look fine

Howie

You don't need an oil change to change the filter.

If the dealer put on the leaking filter it is the dealer's responsibility to correct the situation.

and BTW...look in the site glass on the right side of the motor and see if the oil in the site glass is even remotely the same color as what is on the ground...might also be worth sticking your finger in the substance and smelling it for to help identify it( but tasting it is probably not a very good idea!)
