License Plate Mounting (non-Monster)

OK, so it's not a monster...but looking for advice here anyway. I recently bought a KTM 690 SMC, and there's no place to carry registration and other paperwork on it...period. Not under the seat, nowhere...you've got to keep it in a pocket (where it gets lost and ends up away from the bike) or elsewhere (e.g. smuggle it into jail style).
I bought one of these ingenious devices to carry it:
http://www.jpcycles.com/product/701-160
Problem is, the bike has an aftermarket tail tidy kit that mounts with only two bolts. You can kind of see it here:
I'm thinking that with the kind of stuff people do on Supermotos, it might need to be a bit more...stable:
I've been searching, but I can't find any aftermarket kit that (a) mounts the box/plate at four points and (b) doesn't insist on replacing some huge part of the tail assembly. So I'm thinking I may need to get some material and fab my own. I'm hoping for any advice you have on:
1. Material: I'm thinking stainless steel is easiest. But is it durable enough?
2. Working that material: cutting it, etc. Stainless is a bit tough, but I think an angle grinder will do.
Any thoughts or advice?

I just keep all my moto docs folded in my wallet.
However, in the case of attaching that thing:
Stainless should work if you want to fab something.
How about mounting it somewhere other than it's intended location? on the front number plate, on one of those fancy side pieces (either inside or outside). Out of sight, out of mind.
or even on that flat fender piece behind the seat. Drill four holes, secure with loctite, and call it good?

I've done a fistful of plate mounts out of .095" 6061-T6 sheet for Monsters.
Just don't put a sharp bend in it, and make the bend perpendicular to the 'grain'.

Thanks for the ideas! I was wondering about that too, but this bike is so damn small I've had trouble imaging a place
Will keep looking though.

Thanks! No bends necessary, as I have top mounting holes already. Great advice!

You sir have not modded it enough
get the Evo II kit and you'll have a lot of space as the air box is dumped for a pod that sits where the battery is now
My papers ride in a zip lock taped to the bottom of the seat back by the electrics. Plenty of space for that. If you get an open air box lid like the Evo I you can even carry a small tool kit under there.
You're just no trying hard enough!
And while Im on the 690 stump - look up the green wire mod
- start learning about TuneECU - freeware fuel and throttle control software that works well
- take the seat off and find the quick disconnect on the fuel line and make sure the line isnt rubbing on the tank to frame bolt. It probably is and would eventually cut through the line
- know that the owners manual suspension suggestions are waaay to harsh. So much so that the 'sport' causes the front to chatter and braking suck. I'm around 15 clicks in front and 13 on the shock
- join up on supermotojunkies - I use my original handle there of yuu

Thanks! I think I'm going to learn to ride the damn thing before I do any more mods (prior owner did a bunch)...especially airbox stuff (already have an FMF full system with a map and a few wire-related mods). I just picked up a piece of aluminum to see if I can't fab my own

From personal experience these bikes need some FI and thorttle tweaking. Dunno what the PO did of course so it might be pretty sorted out.
The wire mod - Green wire? There's a gear position sensor for 2 and 3 that limit to the throttle to 80% so that's probably what got undone.
Some of the other stuff I mention aren't really modes but preventative - like ensuring the fuel line isn't getting cut by the bolt. There's also suggestions of getting some trim onto the face of the fan to prevent it for rubbing on the radiator.
Another each- easy -smart mod is to replace the stock fan switch with one using a lower on-temp set point. The KTM supplied one lets things get pretty damn hot before the fan kicks on.
Oh - there's a KTM plastic bit that can make plate a bit easier to mount. It's got a number of holes in it for mount it to the tail and plates.
