Big bulge? On the right side one only? If so that was to make space for the emissions canister. The pods are a universal item so you could swap. Or you can track down 'euro' pods that didn't have to accommodate an emissions can

To make space you could get a LiFPO battery. They are a lot smaller and could free up room under the tank. But without some sort of efforts the coils won't fit under there. As I mentioned the ECU is mounted where the coils on a carby are

ahh maybe it was only on one side... havent had them on in a whilleee, not a big fan. Im in the process of pulling the frame off and cleaning up wire routing and cutting off extra tabs (such as the side cover tabs) so I will post up some pics of however i end up moving this coil and where to when i get at it.

i mounted it between the battery and air box as said above. if you trim the casing back a little on the loom, the leads are long enough, so there is no need for anything but making it mount nice and secure.

if your in the mood to tidy up frame hangings, while making a mount for your coils, make a mount up there for the starter solinoid too. its the black round thing on the right side of the frame just a little rearward of the throttle bodies. then buy some appropriate guage cable and re do the starter motor cable. your bike will start better and look much nicer on the right hand side. run the wire from battery positive to solinoid and then run it down the left side of the motor with the alternator and crank angle sensor wires (front side of the left engine case) then under the horizontal cylinder to the starter motor. not as hard as it may sound from my wording, but it is worth while!

while your there, its also easy to extend the oil temp sensor (right side of motor below the oil level window) wire and run it forward towards the starter and then run it up with the starter wire et al and you have a nice neat single loom running all the lower electricals on your motor!!

will make a world of difference in your own eyes! and in reality, this is the way the engines should have been wired imo.
