EDMONTON - A motorcyclist was clocked at a “frightening” speed of 279 km/hr on Alberta’s deadliest highway.

Mounties said motorcyclist who was weaving in and out of traffic at a speeds of 279 km/hr on Highway 63, just north of Fort McMurray, shortly before 8 p.m on Thursday.

The motorcyclist was later arrested.

“It’s frightening,” Const. Christina Wilkins with the Wood Buffalo RCMP said. “I have never seen a speed that high and I think that would go for a lot of other officers as well.”

No information on what he was riding..... might be for sale soon though  boo

Stock?  I've always wondered what an R1/GSX-r1000/CBR1000 would do out of the box.

I know an R6 will do 140 in 3rd.

yup, stock... in 6th gear it'd pull slowly to 199mph-indicated*, bounced off the rev limiter, then drop down 3mph and start climbing again.

*199mph - 10% = ~179mph

Wow, 180-200 off the showroom floor is pretty ridiculous.  Thanks for answering a question I've had for a few years.
