07 S2R1K. Prior to starting, temp indicates 100 degC and rising, even without engine running!!! Accessed the connector under the rubber boot, and cleaned connector with some light sandpapering and wd40, and replaced nicely centered, but still no fix. Any other usual suspects?

What do you get for a temperature reading when the wire is disconnected?

chixstrip

When disconnected, the temp gauge reads "---". Hmmmmm, I'm guessing that means its not a wiring problem.

Thanks howie.

Just to check, oil will need to be drained to change out the thermistor rite?
[bang] I've got fresh oil in there! So will probably just run it faulty for a bit.

yeah, u can get away with laying the bike over if your that way inclined. not all the way, i layed mine over onto a 4wd tyre.

Howie

No need to drain the oil or tip the bike.  A few drops will come out no matter what you do and that's about it.

Roaduser

well there you go, when i did this i was being cautious as id just given my bike a service and belly full of expensive oil, then i realised i had put the oil screen plug on without its crush washer...  [bang]
obviously a smaller hole than my scenario, but i still assumed the oil sensor hole would leak quite well without a sensor.
