Does anyone know if the 2012 1100 Evo forks are a straight swap for the 796 forks without having to mess with shims and triple clamps?

Thanks

Raux

should be a straight swap. 50/54 clamps. BUT... brake rotor offset will need to be verified.
5-bolt = 15 mm offset
6-bolt = 10mm offset

if both bikes have 5-bolt rotors then they should both be 15mm offset.

I'd double check that offset actually... IIRC when I was getting new rotors the 796 has a funny offset to it.  It's a 5 bolt 10mm offset, not the standard.  I know because I got some 5 bolt 15mm offset ones off ebay and they didnt fit.

And yup, I just double checked and it's a 5 bolt 10 mm offset but its the same as the m1100.  Should be a direct drop in.

you might want to look at that 5bolt 10mm vs a 6 bolt. many times it's called a 10mm but actually it's a 5mm for the 6 bolt. it's wierd i know. i've been caught in the middle of the whole 5/6bolt 10/15mm confusion. add in the 6bolt 15mm special rotors i'm using and it's enought to make your head spin.

Hmm... not sure of the exact offset I was just going by what was listed on ca cycleworks.  but I do know that the m1100 and the m796 rotors are compatible.  I wound up getting used m1100 rotors to replace the ones on my m796, they are the same oe part number... and the 796 is def 5 bolt and def not 15mm as I still have a set of the 5 bolt 15mm rotors sitting in storage :(

I really gotta put those up in the for sale section one of these days.

Yup, that 796 had abs... are the rotors different with it?

not sure. but i'm curious as to the situation with the 5bolt lower offset.
and if true would make putting a sbk wheel on a 696 easier

Thanks to all that helped, just paid for the forks there being shipped fom Florida to the Uk, I can't wait apart from the look of gold forks  I felt non adjustable front shocks really lets the 796 down.

I cant really say for sure... but what I can def tell you is:

1. m796/m1100 rotors are the same
2. they are 5 bolt but do not fit 15mm offset
3. Ca cycleworks lists them as 5 bolt 10mm and they also fit the mts1200 and diavel

Maybe check to see if there is any info on rotors from the mts1200?  If they can confirm 5 bolt/10mm then I'd say it's def... or maybe just call up ca cycleworks?

Thought I'd update the thread for future reference.  Bought a pair of 1100 EVO forks and yes they are a straight swap.

Matiasneto

where would you find these forks for the 796, also are they a good upgrade for these bikes. Or is it worth trying some other setup.

Found mine on eBay, I was lucky as they came off a demo bike that had low mileage do they were mint.  I'm vain and like the aesthetics as much as anything would have loved the Ohlins from the 1100s but was happy with these.  Are they worth it? For me yes the price I paid was about the same as having my existing shocks converted.  it all comes down to what you want from adjustables as you can have the oil and springs changed in your current setup to match your weight and style of riding this is often much cheaper than swapping out the forks.
