Okay, so here's the sequence of events so you can follow.

First time Monster owner.  Bought a new 696 this year.  Have since decided to do some little mods to it, and I'm becoming addicted.

I just put on the Evotech Tail Tidy, and realized that when I did so, I put the tail light on upside-down.  So tonight I went to remedy that situation.  (I blame Evotech for very poor instructions.  lol)

After this little half hour project was done, I went to put the seat on.  The thought crossed my mind to check that the seat lock works properly, but I didn't do anything to the seat lock this time, and I thoroughly checked it the first time and all was well, so I didn't.  That apparently doesn't carry forward to future work, so now I must have pinched the lock cable or something because I can't get the seat off.....at all.

What can I do?  HELP!!  My insurance and registration is under there, plus I bought some super cool chinese LED signal lights that fell apart after the first ride that I need to replace!   AHHHHHH!!

Search for a recent thread where the same thing happened to another member.  He used a hook to reach under the seat and snag the catch.  There were some pics too.

.....and I put my tail light on upside down when I did the Evotech.  Misery loves company  ;D

Thanks.  I can't seem to find the thread with the pics and description of how that was done.  Anyone have a link?

Much thanks!

U check YouTube? There's some great tutorials on seat removal on there

No go with the YouTube. I might try to get in there with a hook of some kind to the latch after work, but not sure yet. Have to see. There's very few openings with that Evotech tail tidy!

On the bright side, it is very secure without having a key......

This might sound stupid, but it's worth a try until you locate that thread. Push down/hit the seat with some force when you are twisting the lock and see if that works.

The thread I referred to was from Showerfan but it was a different bike and no pics.  Search seat lock on the "other" forums and you will find more info...........

When I first put on the touring seat, it didn't want to come back off until I got annoyed and whacked the passenger portion with my left hand while trying to turn the key with my right. It let go and came off. Now the seat goes on and off with no problems. I guess it just needed a little persuasion.  ;D

take risks

I ordered and installed the rear brake light from T-Motorsports. First day half the license plate white LEDs went out. After that they all went out.
Brakes and blinker lights still work. good luck with the seat.

yes, it happened to me too. i used a hook tool that was similar to a screwdriver to pull out the latch. i have to say that, in my opinion, our seat latches suck, and i wish there were some awesome, aftermarket solutions to them. that said, i have a 1999 m900, which is probably a lot different than a 696.
Give me a shout if you know any good motorcycle detailers in the Westchester area.
