I just installed mirrors that required I move my controls over 1/2", which meant a basic 1/4-turn loosen on screws/bolts, a slide over, and then a re-tighten.  Simple stuff, right?

But after I re-tightened the throttle housing I checked the throttle and it did not snap back.  I loosened and it did, just like normal except of course i have to hold the housing in place.  Tighten, little or no snap back.  Loosen, all's well.  So I figured I'm over tightening (though I'm barely doing so) so I BARRRRRELY tighten.  No luck.

If its tight enough for the housing not to rotate around the bars, the throttle won't snap back.  Where did I go wrong ???  Holy BW2B this bike is moody!

Advice appreciated.  In case it helps, here's a photo of the the mischievous bolts (I named them Gary and Louis and sooner or later they will feel my wrath):

something to check
the bar end mirror is butted up against the plastic throttle tube
when you loosen the bolts it can slide over just enough not to bind.
try moving the throttle 1/8" further inboard

Thanks, Raux.  But no luck (I actually checked that second).  You can see a bit of space between the mirror and the grip, and I moved it even further in just to be sure.

Ugh.  And I was going for a 80 mi ride after work tomorrow.  I need to stop tinkering at the last minute!

I've got nothing then

This sometimes works.
Loosen the throttle clamp bolts. Turn the throttle 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Tighten the bolts and then release it so it snaps back.
Dont over torque those bolts.

Fixed.  Today's lesson was that the throttle housing has a notch that lines it up.  I guess in the new position as I tightened the screws the housing was prevented from coming together naturally and bent slightly in a way that stopped the throttle snap back.  Anyway, removed mirror and throttle returned to stock position.  All is well.

I'll drill a new hole tomorrow.

Thanks, guys.

I'm confused... what do the mirrors have to do with the throttle position?

I guessing position.  From this:

I gather that when the throttle is moved inboard to clear the mirror, the alignment hole no longer lines up. (The one that locates the throttle and keeps it from turning.  The tiny pin on the throttle housing will allow you enough clearance to tighten the throttle, but it will do exactly as it is because when the pin isn't in the hole it tightens crooked and puts enough pressure on the throttle cam to keep it from working.  When there is a hole for the pin, it tightens straight and allows enough free play to work properly.

Having gone through the exact same thing mounting my city bars and using Gran Tourismo grips on them, I understand.

Oh, and FWIW 121GW, "measure twice, drill once."  DAMHIK.  [bang]

I filed the pins down on my clipon mounting

Did it work ok?  I tried that with my OEM throttle and had the same result, IOW when I tightened the housing enough to keep it from spinning on the bar, it clamped down on the cam preventing it from working properly
Lucky for me, I had a new throttle set up with my FCR's, which I drilled a new hole for. (well, two actually when the position of first one conflicted with the brake perch.)

Correct.  Haven't drilled the new hole yet, so this weekend I drove 200+ miles with one convex round end mirror and one stock 'antenna' mirror.  This only underscored my belief that the stock mirrors are useless.

Wait, it's not the other way around?!?  ;)

i did the same thing my first time too, and when we fitted new bars to my mates bike did it again!!  [bang]

the knob not having a hole to go into makes the housing angle over and the cam on the throttle tube rubs insinde the housing.. i filed off the knobs too

All too often, it is!
