I didn't really think about it until someone asked me about my wheels and I Googled old Monster pics, but...I'm wondering what these wheels might have come from. I have a 96 M900 and 5 spoke "Marchesini" wheels came with it. Stock (I only see the three spoke wheels for stock)?

both the superbikes (918 and on) and supersports (2001 and on) came with 5 spoke wheels. some monsters were blessed with 5 spoke wheels (s4/sr2/st3/st4 and prob others).

there were many models that shared the same 5 spoke style wheels and many are interchangeable to a degree. mainly varying in axle size and brake rotor mountings but i believe some may say brembo and others marchesini, most are alloy, some are forged and less are magnesium.

i for instance used an 02 900ss rear wheel and 918 front on my dss monster, rear required some encouragement to fit, and they look identical to yours from what i can see

Roaduser, thanks! Is there any way to tell what they came from? I'm interested in knowing in the event that I have to replace parts (e.g. Bearings). Perhaps measuring? Also what about the material (I assume some markings)?

They look like Supersport wheels to me from like a 03-05 SS1KDS....but the bearings would be for your current axle, for which the best thing to do in that case is to get the number off the side of the bearing ( whether it be a Timken kumber, SKF or whathaveyou) and get them from a bearing distributor like All Balls Racing or some place like that which will use that exact number for cross reference to get you the same direct fit bearings in replacement.

Zooooom!

Thanks! That helps too. I'm paranoid about replacing parts now, since I've spent all summer trying to get this beast on the road. Last thing I need is to hunt for unknown parts.

given the year of his bike, he probably has the 17mm and 20mm axles where as those wheels were spec'd for the larger sized/diameter axles, which is why you want to have your bearings go for the axle that you are using, regardless of the application of the wheel
