Hanging idle

Just got my full Termi exhaust on, with ECU and airbox mod.  When I pull up to a stop the engine will hang at about 3000rpm.  If I put a load on the engine by letting the clutch out slowly with the brake on, the RPM's will drop to they typical ~1500rpm.

If I engine brake all the way to the stop it won't hang.  I checked for air leaks and vacuum leaks, it has none.  It has a small exhaust leak in the crossover of the midpipe that I'm going to have Ducati take a look at.

Any thoughts?

air bleed screw issue in the stepper motor?

Hedgehog

A hanging idle usually means it's too lean.

LOL.  I have no idea what those things are.  Can you explain to me what they are, what they do, and what I would need to do to fix the problem?

I thought that too.
Can you fatten up the a/f ratio with the DP ECU?  I read that the trim can be adusted.

Sorry, you're on your own there, as I've just got a carb bike.  Maybe someone else can speak to the trim and perhaps the throttle position sensor adjustments.  I seem to remember posts from way back in the early 916 days about lean idle and those adjustments.

Yes, you can move the entire fuel curve up and down (A/F), but I think you need a dealer to to that.
Did you install the DP ECU your self?  If so, did you do a TPS reset?

Oh, pls. ignore my comment on the stepper motor.  I didn't realize you have the DP ECU.  We can come back to that point if/when it is determined that it is not a ECU problem.

Also if the idle is simply turned up too high the tps will be high and the ecu will advance the ignition too much too soon and throttle hang up can occur.
Efi set-up should fix it.
good luck

I didn't mess with the TPS since the instructions didn't mention it.  How do you reset the TPS?  And should I do it?

What I did today was take off the cut air box and put the stocker back on.  The bike runs much better.  Hangs at about 2500rpm for an instant then drops back down to it's normal idle.  And after taking the cut air box off I can say I'm not a big fan of it.  It makes the bike uber loud right in your face.

What also makes me think it was lean is now that the stock air box is back on, the bike is much faster.  I think it was so lean it was affecting the power.

No wonder my Dealer won't let me fit this Kit to my S2R myself.

He said he needs it for half a day to fit the kit, program the ECU and reset the TPS,
and to keep it overnight so he can check it with a cold start the following day.

I don't understand the cold start thing, But when ever he fits a Termi/DP ECU/Air filter Kit he damends to keep the bike overnight to check everything the following morning.

When you turn up to collect the bike, he gets you to follow him on a store bike while he takes your bike for a run to check the whole thing is OK.

I don't mind that part, Last time I got to take the HyperMotard for a run  [thumbsup]

Tps is set with a computer program (DDS at ducati) and should be checked/done every tune up. It is one piece of fuel injection set up (very important one). I feel this is one of the critical checks when playing with fuel injection.
