Lately i have noticed my 08 695 makes a high pitched whine.  This happens the majority of the time regardless of, brakes applied, throttle on, rolling, stopped, etc..

I can make no rhyme or reason for it.  [bang]

Also, it is stock.

Anyone else have any idea?

Thanks

Is it the same sound as you hear immediately after turning the key on?
If so, that's the fuel pump.

Mine has started to do this also in the 50-60mph range, goes away at higher speeds and starts up slowly around 25..

I'm gonna check chain tension.. its the only thing I can think of  :-\

other then it might be normal, but I'm new to the bike so I don't know.

I've cleaned and lubed the chain, all seems fine.

I can hear my fuel pump on my S2R. I think it's normal. Getting louder pipes might help  [evil]

 ???

I only hear the pump when I turn the ignition switch on...

or, y'know... +1 on the pipes mod  ;D

Possibly the belts or tensioner/idler rollers.

But it really is dependent on exactly when it's happening, and that's not clear from the OP.

My '04 M1000 has always done it, too; frequency changes with engine speed.....I really don't "notice it" much after 11k+ miles.

Belts that are too tight will make a whining noise.  If it's the belts the whine should follow the engine speed.

I probably don't know what I'm talking about but I had a friend have the same problem on a different bike, turned out it was the intake, in which case there's not much you can do about it short of modding it, which isn't a bad idea, especially if you have pipes.

Thanks for all the help, sorry i have been out of town and just now see all the replies.

So far i am going with it is normal, and will have it looked at when i hit 7500 miles.

I totally agree on the louder pipes  [thumbsup], they are on the list, but not in the budget yet  [bang]

Thanks again.
