Just purchased first Ducati (2009 Monster 1100) about six weeks ago....

Now I am having a problem with it.....

Problem is it keeps stalling at low revs.  The "pckup" sensor light comes on.  Not sure what this relates to can anybody help??

Cheers

check all the wiring plugs on the front of the motor. the pickup sensor is there.

Thanks I will check that out.

Does anybody know what the pick up sensor does??

Cheers

Is that the one that sends the crank timing indication to the ECU?  It is essential for RPM counting, spark timing, and fuel injection timing.

This sounds a lot like the issue I'm having with my s2r1k. Very little spark at low rpm and doesn't stay running until completely warmed up. Coils were replaced but no improvement

My 1100s is in for it's service this week (7500 mile), however the day before I took it in, it started throwing this code and not starting (PKUP). I tried for two days to get it started with no success. I will update if I hear anything. Seems common, and frustrating, for the 1100s.

Thanks Klone if you can let me know what your techs say.. ;D

There is also an air gap for the sensor.  If the gap is too small the sensor might have a collision.  Too large, no or weak spark will occur.

I think the spacers are in the parts catalog.

Just got the bike back, three of my valves needed adjusting, and I also added the 14t sprocket. However, I spoke with them about the pckup sensor. When I dropped off the bike, it would not start. Solid voltage, but it would not fire just crank and crank and crank. They had thought I needed a new sensor, the explanation I was given was that the sensor reads the rpms and determines if the bike "should" be started. When this sensor goes out the bike will not start (the only sensor that will affect this). Good news is mine was just very dirty and no longer reading the RPMs, I didn't need a new one, just a good cleaning. Now, the bike fires right up. Overall the service was great, I got that taken care of I no longer have the decel popping from the exhaust like I did. It seems like these sensors get dirty, out of alignment, broken, etc... Mine must have been getting progressively dirtier until it finally decided not to start.

thats strange. because mine is freaking filthy and it would still start.

Well you wouldn't believe it but bike now works perfectly.... Started up to see if I could charge battery and was doing normal thing ie stalling at low revs etc. bike makes weird sound and stalls screen goes blank and then comes up with weird error code. I think it was er7 and now bike is back running like a dream. Go figure. Thanks for all your help guys much appreciated. I plan to book in for service when I get back from holidays. Cheers

Dirt itself should have no effect unless the dirt contains something that conducts electricity.  It is possible air gap was corrected when they cleaned the pick up.

I have not taken it to repair shop yet... It has just come good itself...  ???
