Hey Guys,

I have a 2009 Ducati Monster 696 which I bought about a 2 months ago. I started noticing a rattling noise coming from the clutch or clutch region it's hard to pin point exact source maybe the belt? The noise itself sounds like a TWAP! noise sorta like when you put a baseball card in the spokes of a bicycle or the sound of the spinning blades on a lawn mower. The noise only starts when I hit 30 miles per hour and 3000 rpms. If I dip below 3000 rpms the noise immediately stops and if I increase the rpms the noise remains consistent but doesn't get any louder. The noise is somewhat subtle but consistent. The bike preformance doesn't seem to be effected in any way and it shifts through gears smoothly when I ride.

So any ideas what it could be? Should I stop riding it immediately and get it checked out? Or could I wait till its next maintenance that's about 900 miles from now?

Check your timing belts! That TWAP noise may come from your partially sheared off timing belt(s). My 2010 696 horizontal belt sheared then broke off completely last year after I inadvertently left a piece of metal (spacer) inside the belt covers. Good luck!

check your exhaust springs and clamps. makes sure they are all tight.
the TWAP may be an exhaust leak. I get that noise where my pipes and cans meet because I can't seal them all the way (custom work).
