i recently replaced my old tank on my '00 Dark with an '01 tank. The old tank had rusted and fouled up the fuel pump. I replaced both with functioning working parts. All lines are matched right, everything appears to be solid, but it won't start. Did i miss something or is there something else that could be causing this fata flaw? It tries to crank, but won't. I can hear the pump priming, but it sounds more like a vaccuum than the old pump did. Please help, bike is not happy with me for letting the tank rust.

When you say it won't crank do you mean it won't turn over, or it won't start?

I'd try switching the feed and return lines.

Assuming you bought a good used pump there really isn't much else that it could be.

If your lines still have the lettered bands the one with M is the feed.

evrything was clearly marked and labled on both line and tank.  could it be the plugs?

It's possible.

It's also possible you might have knocked something loose under the tank during the switch.
