Crap crap crap...

Hit a pothole today and bent the wheel on our M696 (w/abs).

Looking at options -   insurance claim, wheel repair, used wheel.

There's a front wheel from a 2006 SS800 on Ebay for reasonable coin.

Anyone know if it would fit???

Or have other suggestions?

6 bolts per rotor.
SS should be a fit.

Not sure about 'style', but it should work.

Yeah, I looked at the Ebay add and it looks like the wheel has 6 rotor bolt holes.

Actually, style looks the same too.

is the ss at 25mm hollow axle rim?

Good question. I have no idea, but guess that's what I need to find out.

Yes.

I think everything after 99 was 25mm hollow.

I suspect, but it's my wife's bike and I'd rather not take the chance of a future failure from an undetected crack or weakened area.

I wound up purchasing a take-off wheel from earlier Monster (2000 M750) from a board member.

I just installed along with a new tire last night!

The model it came off of had a speedometer cable, so the bearings were installed slightly deeper on the left side.

As a result I needed another 9mm of shim material.

I used a 1 in. shaft motor lock coupler turned on a lathe to the right size.

I mention this in case anyone with a late-model Monster needs a front take-off. Not a big deal but be aware of it.

Looking closely at the wheel now that it is stripped I'm almost certain it could be fixed. Might take it to a shop and have it done as a spare or offer it up to the next guy who needs one.

Going out to test ride and scrub in the new tire shortly.

RIDE SAFE ALL,

Kev
