Hi DucatiMonsterForum!

Anyways, I have some experience with Japanese bikes, but none whatsoever with ducatis.  Here are a few retard questions that are going to make me sound real stupid, please forgive me.

1 - I have a 2006 S2R 800, i noticed all the pictures have shotgun exhausts on the side, and I noticed even the aftermarket termignoni full exhausts are shotgun on the side.  However, mine is dual (one exhaust on each side of the bike) and the previous owner says its a full termignoni exhaust.  Does termignoni make a full exhaust system that leads to dual sides?

2 - The 2006 S2R800 is not carbureted right?  If it is fuel injected, why does it have a choke? In japanese bikes, all EFI bikes do not have chokes and only carbed bikes have chokes.

3 -  My bike has 11,000 miles, and it skipped the 10,000 mile major service as suggested in the workshop manual.  I will definitely bring to a mechanic and have him do the 10k service.  In addition to the 10k service, is there anything else I should adjust/replace/check on the bike?

4 - What does a steering damper do for monsters and is it worth $450?

1. The pipes from the cylinder to just under the footpeg is/can be the same on any fully open system. Yes, Termignoni sold a side by side slip on system that can be used in a fully open system or with the catalytic converter still there.

2. Fuel injected. It's not a choke - it's a fast idle lever.

3. The service should cover 'everything', but ask your mechanic about any other work. Also, hanging around here should give you a better idea of what we think is required.

4. Personally I don't think a damper is worth it - our bikes won't do a lot of wheely'ing and I have never had a problem that a damper would have fixed. Others will tell you they love their damper.

Stopintime beat me, but...

1) Not sure. I can find images of the Termi shotgun style (both cans on the right) for that bike, tho.

2) Fuel injected. The lever is not a "choke"... it's a "fast idle". In effect, it works the same as if you were giving it a little gas. It doesn't modify the fuel mixture.

3) Isn't the interval 12k miles? Check the works... plugs, belts, tires, fluids, valves, chain... basic interval checkups. My valves were within spec at 12k, and belts should be replaced.

4) Opinions vary on usefulness, but they can help stabilize against sudden movements caused by road conditions (and keeping you from dropping the bike at speed). Others will give a clearer definition. In 24k, I've never felt that I needed one.

I will take a picture of the headers->cans and post them later this week. I pick up the bike on Wednesday. This week is going by so slow  Roll Eyes

Could it be a high-mount system like below?  Pictured is a Zard I think, but you get the idea:



The service intervals are 600, 6000, 12,000 and so on.  The 12,000 is a pretty in depth service, I remember being quoted $600+ for my M750.

Depending on your riding skill/style/aggressiveness I wouldn't be that concerned about a damper.  I all the time I've been riding my M750 (2003), I have only had only 1 time a steering damper might have helped.

Im in california, but i believe the bike is from Utah (i know california requires like cats and those canisters for sure, dunno about utah though)  Do those look like a full termignoni system to you guys?

There was another thread that mentioned the S2R 800 never came with a Cat.
the cans are Termi, high twins, and you have the full system that takes off the 'udder'

If it is what it seems to be, a straight pipe along the right side of the engine - then yes it's a Ducati Performance/Termignoni midpipe - part # 979A00105. They/it could be bought separate, but was often bought with the exhaust cans - part # 96446205B - which included the ECU and cut air box lid.

So, unless I'm wrong, you have the complete package. If it works well - leave it. If it doesn't - have it adjusted as a part of the service. Power Commander might smooth out the fueling even more after a full day on the Dyno, but probably not worth it.

I'm a big fan of steering dampers.  But it's also a question of priorities.  If you haven't done it yet, that money is probably better spent getting the suspension sorted out for YOU.  At a minimum set sag and hydraulics.  Some additional attention to the forks in particular will do wonders for the handling/safety/enjoyment.  Stock forks on the S2R are pretty anemic.  Local professional suspension tuner is usually a good starting point.

Not a lot of adjustment in the S2R 800 suspension, but I agree.

Have the suspension tuned for you as much as you can.

Awesome, thanks for all the info!  I'll have a mechanic take a look and see if i actually have the full package installed with ecu upgrade.  And yes, I will look into new forks.  Any suggestions on new forks? And what does it means to have the suspension tuned for me? As far as stiffness/softness, how do I test?  Do i just ride around and see if it feels nice? Anything specific to look for or feel for?  Thanks again! Day 2 and im already learning bookloads! You guys are the best  bow down
