Our original intention to build this kit was not to create a headlight that we can use to convert to HID - but to create an adapter ring so we can use standard 7" headlights on the Ducati bucket - since there are many headlights in that size available for replacement that have a more intersting appearance. That said, we have found the clear lenses to work much better than the fluted OEM lenses wich tend to create hot spots and more glare to oncoming traffic.

This is the headlight using a PIAA Superwhite H4 low beam:

High beam PIAA Superwhite:

We have other options available for headlights such as this hi performance LED light that can one can upgrade to:

MW Custom LED headlight 7 inch

Any chance for a HID kit?

I haven't had a reply yet from moto, but does anyone know if this can be used with an HID kit?  Will the clear lense & HID project the light beam properly?  Also want to know the lense material and depth, as I have some of my wiring connections of the HID kit stuffed into my headlight housing.

You can get HID conversions for just about anything. Just saw an article for a H4 kit earlier today...http://www.webbikeworld.com/suzuki-dr650/hid-headlight/.

Short answer is "yes". You can get an HID for this assembly. The long answer is "your results may vary". These reflectors are not optimized for HID, so you "may" get better light output, but you may also get more glare.

My 2 cents is that I wouldn't try HID in a traditional reflector like ours... just a good Silverstar or similar, and a pair of auxiliary driving lights for high beams.

It will work in this as long as it is a full retrofit. I believe he was asking whether if going full retrofit if he will be able to fit most of the wiring in the bucket. I think the answer would be a no considering those who have gone full retrofit end up mounting most of the hardware near the air filter.

Speak to Matt@motowheels.com or give him a call at 916.369.2509. He should be back today. We are closed on weekends.  I won't be in until after my appointments today.

Matt installed an H4 kit on my Streetfighter and ST4s. He has the prototype clear lens headlight installed on his S2R with PIAA bulbs.
The clear lens on this headlight should work much better for HID than the stock fluted lens.

the stock h4 lens on our monsters is cut (with grooves) to channel the light for an H4 bulb. and HID light needs a clear path.

but the problem is its still not projected since the HID bulb acts as a point source. It needs a correct housing or a projector to angle hte beam correctly.

Agreed... there's always the "misc hardware" that need to find a home, and there's certainly no extra room in the bucket. The article I linked to shows the extra hardware that the reviewer ended up mounting below the headlight assembly.
