~~~SNIP~~~
Got mine from Lindemann Engineering... Jim knows Penske shocks very well.
Jim died last year, his business partner Ed Sorbo is running it now.
That's a shame... he really went the extra mile with the setup on my shock, was a great guy to talk to.
Always sad to hear someone who has high praises go.
I called up Penske. Apparently the 636 shock is too long, even with the adjustments, ill need to replace over $500 in parts
. So the shock is pretty much useless to me. So Before i even got it, i need to sell it. I'm sure i can get back what i paid maybe even more. time to sign up for SVrider.com and some kawasaki forums.
I think with those funds ill just pony up for a double clicker.
Bummer! But realistically, off the track I don't think you'll be missing out on anything but bragging rights with a double-clicker.
I was looking foward to the triple clicker only because of the variability of the road conditions here in NYC. but im sure ill find a happy range for a double.
Because of the 1" extra length i will need a new shaft, body, body cap and eyelet and spring. Lets not even talk about pricing!
The double clicker is only $875 and the Triple is $1195. Is there any real benefit to having that high speed and low speed comp damping on the street?
I got the shock today, was going to clean it up and throw it on the SVrider forums (shock fits the SV650, per Penske)
I was thinking, its going to cost $575 in parts and $125 for labor. Thats $700. A double clicker is $900. I am really only spending $100 more than a double to get a triple if i keep this and send it for the build. Whereas a stock triple clicker is $1100.
What do you guys think? I might be able to strike a deal with them if they keep the parts.
I'm sure after Penske goes through it it'll be just as good as new, and you won't have to hassle selling a used shock. Course there could be unforseen expenses with the changeover (new spring?) but in a cosmic sense it's the right thing to do. It's got your name on it. Now, I don't think many people can take advantage of hi/lo speed compression adjustability for a street bike, but there are no drawbacks to having it there.
Well the official quote is about $700 bucks. Not worth it. Eitherway, I sold the shock.
Do you know if Penske charges tax? they said I would have to pay NYC tax!!!!
(8.975% i think or 8.795%
or at minimum PA tax at 6%). I might go with LE if they dont tax!
I think the triple has more value in the end. If I ever get rid of this monster, i could easily convert it over to a 999 series bike. its too long for a 1098.
Regardless of who you order it from, the build request will go to Penske and it will ship from there. At least that was my experience. Go for best total price. Can't help on your tax question.
For you? Perhaps a tax break.
For a random customer? Possibly pre-purchase advice, fitment knowledge, etc.
For a local? Setup and support (can be a big factor).
Ill just give em a call. the Penske guy was a tech and didnt really know the exact tax things. Penske is local to me...sort of. they are in PA. So it would be easier to just do it that way.
