I tried searching but couldn't find any robust answer so...

Getting new boots and after researching this site I narrowed options to SIDI (ST/ Vortice) or Dainese (Torque/ TRQ).  I went to Revzilla and tried both and the Daineses just fit better, so I'm going with them.  But I can't figure out whether to get the IN or OUT version.  I understand the difference but don't have enough riding experience to have a preference as of yet.  Can anyone provide some guidance?

Currently, my riding pants/boots are dianese kevlar jeans (w/ aftermarket knee pads underneath) over TCX-X Square boots (obvious why I'm upgrading, no?).  However, I hope to upgrade next year to leathers or a full track suit for use on longer rides.

Because I normally ride with the jeans over boots, I'm leaning towards IN.  However, the salesman mentioned that if you get IN, then you kinda half to get dainese leathers to match because they have velcro that is designed to fit.  Not really a problem, since dainese makes quality gear.  He also mentioned that if I wore the IN with other pants, the velcro would quickly wear down the inside and evenutally ruin the pants.

so, there's a velcro strip on the inside of the boots?
is it the soft side or hook side?

I have boots that don't have any sort of velcro in them, but I wear them in and out depending on the gear
I have a 2-piece suit that I wear in, no issues
I also have icon knee/shin armor that I sometimes wear. When I do, i put them over my jeans and both go in the boot.
At times I have just jeans and then go over.
at other times I have jeans that go in, and i wear soft overpants, that go out of the boot.

ie... versatility.

Strip is on the outside of the boot and it is the hard hook side.  It is meant to hook up with velcro on the inside of the track pants.  To be clear---and I think I'm getting this right---the IN means the boot top is smaller and thus fits INside of pants, while OUT is wider at top and is meant to fit OUTside of pants (i.e. pants tucked in).

Raux: I like your versatility but am not there yet.  Are all those combos you listed with the same pair of boots?  If so, what kind?

I wear my leathers inside my boots, and a pair of Joe Rocket textile pants outside.

I prefer the way things feel with the pants inside the boot.

Just throwing in a fun fact - my Dainese Delta Pro Pelle Leather Pants have two zippers which allow me to wear them both in and out of my SIDI STs.

I like the better shin protection of the OUT boots - nice when used with jeans.

I think the argument about the velcro being destroyed and/or destroying the pants is wrong.

Actually I wear Xelement boot from leatherup.com. not expense at all. but it's starting to age (they are from 2008)
I tried to buy another Xelement but they didnt have my size. so I'll be looking for a replacement next spring.

For winter I have a set of Prorider waterproof midlength boots. since i dont ride with leathers during the winter I only wear them with the pants outside the boots.

i wear my leathers inside my boot. It just feels more snug that way. Most of the out boots have replaceable sliders. Your leathers don't. thats why i do it. but id imagine leathers out is way more comfortable.

Boots in all the way. Especially by the time you get a suit, the Dainese shin protection is good, works perfectly with the IN boots, fit is very snug, not like wearing jeans at all. I like how less bulky it is with IN boots. The reason they developed them is to reduce the chance a hard part of your bike hooks a strap or piece of your boot as you lowside. It sucks to get dragged by your bike when you crash.

I always wear my boots IN.
I commute on my bike and wear office pants when I commute, so when I buy boots I always make sure that the boots fits the legs of my pants and the boots can go IN. I also wear my knee/shin protectors under my pants.  But, most of the time, by the time I get to office, the boots are OUT  ;D

(snip) He also mentioned that if I wore the IN with other pants, the velcro would quickly wear down the inside and evenutally ruin the pants.

Why not just cover the velcro on the boots? If I were you I would get a strip of velcro and cover the ones on the boots. That way, I don't have to always get Dainese pants and I don't have to worry about the velcro ruin my other pants.

Sidi Fusions fit over my 1 piece leathers and under my jeans if I'm riding to work.

They are much more comfortable over my leathers and breathe better that way.

None of this is helping because everyone is making good points for both options!

Interesting, I never realized this.  Then again, I don't think it applies to me since I don't plan to crash.  ;D

Yeah, Revzilla sales people have always given me good advice, but this tidbit was dubious.  I mean, if kevlar is supposed to reduce road rash caused by asphalt, why would some plastic velcro be a problem??

It seems OUT is more common/available.  Also, it looks like the OUT has a little more shin protection.  So I think I'm going with the OUT version.
Thanks all. [bacon]
