If you're looking at a ticket that's near or more than the cost of a number of bikes... why do it? It seems that where you're located is pretty serious about having approved exhausts

wha-whaaaaat???!! Shocked $8000? Where in the hell do you live, Librarytown?

I have straight pipes on my 99 750. It is loud but no louder than the choppers here in nyc. Though I will be making a short extension with a home made baffle to take the sharpness off of the "bark".

monster 796

its called a fix it-ticket. that means that i have until the court date to take care of the problem but i'd have to pay a ticket fee (400 bucks) and all court fees...

My pops has a 357 custom chopper and my monster was louder than it without the pipes  Grin i personally just love the way it looks, it adds so much more rawness to the bike in my opinion, just to big pipes. the monster to me, has a f*** you attitude ya know? it just doesn't really care about except its owner....sorry lol, i tend to personify all my vehicles...

lots of folks have done some variation of what you are thinking. check out Nakids bike over in "the OFFICIAL Bikes of the DMF" thread. or you could go with something like the Exbox..

SO...you run without the mufflers...you put em back on if you get the ticket and get it reinspected and after you are done...take em right back off...

yeah, that part isn't the problem. its more or less that i dont want to harm the motor. I don't how much airflow is changed by removing the exhaust. Obviously they have an affect on the flow, if i remove them im afraid of the engine running to lean, and losing mid-range torque or just burning or bursting a valve in there. ya know, because right now the bike is computerized to work with the exact stock set-up and if i change that, i also would probably void the warranty which i wouldn't want to do, and godforbid I make the beast with two backs the motor somehow...i'd completely ruin my day.  bang head

Another option is to take a set of exhaust cans, chop and core them so they are essentially straight pipes that LOOK like you have a muffler. But with how you are running it now you should have the FI adjusted.

you are finding any reason to ditch them eh? lol

i ran open udder which is a bit different from straight pipes for 5,000 miles. did it harm the motor? Not that i can think of. I found other ways to destroy it. it did move my torque curve way into the unsuable range. i dynoed it at 82rwhp or something to that number, but it was a much better with the exhaust on. If you really wanted to get rid of the looks go with boomtubes or exbox.
