Bearing / Spacer Missing

Hi,

Looking for a bit of help, I have had my 98 M750 for a couple of months now and it was about time to put on a new rear tyre. I was looking around to make sure I was going to do this correct and heard about the "Cone shaped spacer". But as far as I can see my bike is missing it? I assume this is right and I need the part?






Also the bearings seem to be slight odd to my knowledge. The right hand side one just the centre appears to rotate (As I would expect), but on the left hand side (Where I believe the spacer should live?) the whole bearing rotates in its housing. The red bits on the photos show the exact part rotating when moving it by hand.









Apologies If I am being incredibly stupid here... and I hope this post makes sense.

It appears that the cone shaped spacer is missing by the worn ends of the sprocket retaining bolt.

That bearing should not rotate in the carrier. You can either replace the carrier, or they make a bearing/sleeve grade locktite that will secure the bearing in the carrier.

I can't tell if the snap ring is still in the carrier because of your highlighting circle.

If the ring is gone or the groove is damaged you'll have to replace the carrier.

They are specific to wheel size.

Thank you very much for you quick response. It seems strange that the whole thing rotates so easily and smoothly, just as I thought a working bearing would.
I can't see the clip or even where the clip goes? So from that deduction I assume I need the Spacer, Snap ring & a new bearing?

um, from those newest pics you just posted, those are the spacers right there in the pics. and the rotating part that you are saying is the outer part of the bearing assumed not supposed to spin is actually a spacer and is supposed to spin.

+1  Everything is correct, you can take a socket with the same outer diameter as the inner spacer (#22 the small bronze piece with the cone shape on the back side of the sprocket carrier) and tap that spacer out.  It is supposed to come out and should do so easily.  The cone shaped spacer #25 should pop right out after that.  Good to clean those and regrease every time the wheel comes off. 

somebody has already hammered on them for whatever reason to put those nicks on them, but it won't affect them at all...cosmetic.

Looks like the wheel might have been aligned wrong to see the rubbing on the sprocket retainer bolts and inside of swingarm.  I improperly torqued (because i did not own a torque wrench, and felt I could get it close enough based on feel) the first time i changed the tire.  75 miles later it yanked the right axle slider in half and the chain came off the sprocket and tried to eat my swingarm.

Now I own a torque wrench
