We all saw the announcement of the Marelli ECU that is being offered for free as an incentive to get ahead of the 2014 Standardized ECU that DORNA is going to decree...

now we see that CRT only may be offered a Super Soft tire option for 2013 by Bridgestone at the encouragement of DORNA to close the gap a little bit -> http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2012/Oct/121015c0.htm

and we will be seeing a new qualifying procedure that somewhat reminds me of a truncated version of WSBK's qualifying system -> http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2012/Oct/121013fimnew.htm

wonder what else 2013 will bring?

Why do they have to re-invent the wheel? Just adopt Formula 1's style of qualifying, probably with the 1st session being shorter, and call it good. It's a nice system. Practice should be just that...practice for the riders and teams to set up the bike.

if it weren't for the extra 2 least-slow riders from Q1 being promoted to Q2 i think this would be called 'the stoner rule'

I thought for a moment it was 'the anti-barbera rule', but... slow riders can still get a tow into the top group.

I think he'd figure out a way to whinge about that too...if he wasn't going to be fishing, making more babies, and doing make the beast with two backs-all in the Outback.

DORNA should ask the factory teams not to turn up next year, that way the CRT teams wont have to worry about catching up, imagine how much money they will save then Roll Eyes.

the economy still is, and the MSMA was, killing it.  not dorna.  stands are empty, riders are subsidizing tickets and buying their own equipment, bautista just signed his 2013 gresini contract for an obscenely small amount of money, and last year there was, what, 12 bikes on the grid?  if no changes were made there would be no GP at all soon enough.

If they get rid of prototypes, then it's not moto gp.
I don't profess to have answers on how to fill the grids, but dumbing down the class wouldn't be my first choice

"...extra TV airtime for [CRT] sponsors..."

Is that some newfangled form of cost-reduction?

Wonder how many more accidents this approach will cause?  coffee

This will serve to remove a lot of the slow traffic. They should be able to get in a lot more fast laps by spreading themselves out on the track

More tv time = more impressions = more value in sponsorship = lower out-of-pocket expense and/or needed subsidy from DORNA.

should actually reduce the potential for them in final qualifying.
