2002 S4 Tachometer doesn't work

I have a 2002 Monster S4 916 and the tach (along with the speedo)when you turn the key on jumps from left to right and back as it should. After startup the tach does not work. I've checked all the wiring and its perfect. I replaced the cluster with a new one and mated the keys which was insanely expensive. Is there some kind of hidden fuse or sending unit that could be bad? The speedo works fine.  I can't figure it out.
