anyone know if there's a real diff in the ergos between these two? i have been working to fit my 99 m900 to me --6'4" -- for too long. i'm wondering if trading up to the S4R would allow me to keep riding an old monster? (though i am buying a new one too.)

Give me a shout if you know any good motorcycle detailers in the Westchester area.

The pegs are in a slightly different location.

What would you like to have different?
What is the problem, if any?

oh. my. GOD! what an awesome website!

so, from this site, it appears the s4r would be way easier on the big guy's knees -- same knee angle as the new gen. interesting...

i need more space for my legs. i also have an s1000rr and that feels comfy next to my old m900, as does the new gen. but i like the look of the old monsters, so i was looking for a solution.

I have a 1997 M900 and a 2008 S4RS. They feel pretty similar to me with the stock rearsets. If anything, my legs fit the S4RS tank groove a little better. I notice a little more forward lean on the S4RS also. I'm 6'2 btw.

thanks for the reply -- i'll probably just keep my 99 m900 and try to lower the pegs a little. i've put too much work into her to let her go -- i like wrenching on her and i still want to add the flatsides. then i'll get a new 20th anniversary 1100 evo to ride as a daily and track the s1krr.

anyone else spend every last penny on bikes?  [beer]

A cheaper solution is to swap to SSS and put on S2r rear sets.

showerfan

how much $$$ and how much of a pita is it to swap an m900 to a SSS? figured i'd have to pay at least $1k for the swingar, $1.5k for the wheel. would my current shock work? if not, that's another $1k.

still getting the new evo, but i like. [drool]

I'm 6'3". I moved the foot pegs 40mm back. That opens up the hip joint, but not the knees. Open knees require lower pegs - if that's ok for you regarding the bike's lean angle - if not, a raised seat might help.

The slippery stock pegs can sometimes disturb confidence - resulting in tense lower body muscles. Knurled race'y pegs might be more comfortable just because the feet are 'glued' in place.

Stopintime, didn't you also build up a seat that is like 2 inches taller?

About an inch, yes.

I don't know about the older Monsters but the Ducati comfort seat for the M1100 EVO adds about an inch over the stock seat which relaxes the knees a bit.  I'm 5'11" though so everything seems to fit me just fine.
