Testastretta 821 Monster?
«

Will the Monster be next to get the water cooled Testastretta? I noticed the Hypermotard just came out with this motor. I'm happy with my 1100S but a monster with the Testastretta would be a jump in performance.

they were pretty adament about the Monster being aircooled.
that's why the Streetfighter was built instead of putting the 1098 in the Monster chassis

But all things change. I don't have any numbers to back it up - but it seems to me that the SF isn't as big a seller as the Monsters.

+1 I haven't seen a SF1098 in showrooms in well over a year. I've only seen 1 demo model 848SF (which I've ridden a few times-it's a great bike).

Both very true.
With the introduction of this new smaller engine, I can imagine Ducati using it in the monster, as an option in the future, still having the Streetfighter as the "performance" line of liquid cooled bikes.
Ducati's lack of Streetfighter S sales are its own doing. Its competition is close in performance, but much cheaper in price, and the very real and well known expanding fuel tanks that are keeping people from buying the bike.

It's still on the 2013 program - Ducati.com.
----------
Many Ducatis already struggle with Euro3 demands. Euro4 will be here soon and Euro5 a couple of years after that. Manufacturers will have to do a lot of work to comply - 4valve watercooled is just the beginning. Closed electronics, quiet exhaust, filters, emission tested at all revs/loads, consumption restricted a.s.o. Hybrids next...
Riding a bike is NOT going to be as fun

Sounds like Europe is heading where Japan is now.

Plus a de-tuned ECU and extra sound reducing plastic engine covers
Yes, I'm really sorry, but that's what's going to happen.
Can't remember how far out in the EuroX range they are, but the 'exhaust' coming out of current Euro trucks is actually cleaner than the big city air they suck in. Really!
Imagine what a bike's performance will be like under those requirements
Suddenly, an electric instant torque bike doesn't sound so bad (except for the sound)....
I'm just glad I was here for the Termi thunder and cylinders filled with cannonballs before it all turns to tennisballs and rubber.

There is indeed a Street Fighter S for 2013 on the sight.
http://www.ducati.com/compare/index.do?op=add&year1=21&year1_new_value=false&bikeFamily1=21&bikeFamily1_new_value=false&bikeModel1=74&bikeModel1_new_value=false
As stated by SD, not on the US sight though.

Re: the big Streetfighter
In Australia it is currently only available as a Special Order ... so available (as an S model) but not stocked. At a 61% premium over the 848 there should be no real surprise they wouldn't expect to sell too many. The only bikes in the catalogue more expensive are the MS Pikes Peak, Pani S and Pani Tri.
