I was cleaning the bike the other day and I noticed a wire was split behind the headlight on the left hand side of the bike right at the connector.  It almost looks like someone intentionally cut it.  I'd post a photo but I have no image host account.  Based on following the wire through and the OEM diagrams, I have narrowed the wire down to the clutch microswitch.

I'm not sure how long the wire has been compromised but I am noticing zero difference in how the bike is performing.

What does the micro switch do?  What is being compromised performance or safety wise with this being disconnected?

I looked up the cost for the part and it is like $85 new.  To save money I will try and find on ebay.

The switch allows you to start the bike in gear as long as the clutch is disengaged (pulled towards grip).  If it is just a broken wire why not just repair the wire?

Now it makes sense.  I used to be able to start the bike in gear with the clutch lever pulled in and now I can't.

I thought of just fixing the wire, and it is possible, but to get access to splice wires and re-add connector will take more work than plug and play a new/used part.... i think.  i will weigh it out.
