Ouch!!!! Sorry that it happened.
Were you wearing leather pants or blue jeans?

I slide down some asphalt going in the mid thirties and walked away without a scratch.
Hi-ho-hi-ho....its off to the track I go.................

i was wearing double thick carheart work pants over Nylon woven pants. It had to go through 5 layers of thick clothing to get to my knee. I would have been fine if the bike hadent ended up on me, pushing me into the road as we slid. Helmet saved my life. Also ground down the toe of my steel toe boots.

I can't recall-was it you I gave my back protector to? I hope you were wearing it...

That is still the same as no gear.  Leather or full kevlar overpants.  Otherwise you might as well be wearing shorts.  Jeans, coveralls, jeans with kevlar patches, etc., none of them are worth a damn.

I have a hard time believing that thick canvas or jeans with kevlar are no better than riding in a speedo. Sure they're not ideal but... :-\

I think you get to ski ten more feet than you would with nothing on.

AKA not gear, IMO.

If you want to consider them "better" ask truckinduc how his leg feels.

yes someguy and thank you, it helped. The pants helped a TON. it wore through about 3 layers in some spots.  So they were not as good as protective pants, but they did help. It also wore through my leather-kevlar vanson gloves. It cut a whole in my jacket, and ground into the steel toe of my boot through 2 layers of leather. The asphalt was mean. My knee would still be hurt if i was wearing leather pants. The backpack i was wearing was mostly gone. just a few pieces left. Imagen sliding down the road. Now imagen it with 400 lbs on top of you. It makes gear much more venerable.

I didn't say it was "gear".
I said it was better than nothing.

Slow speed down for example:
-no pants - lots of pain
  - canvas reiforced with kevlar - slightly less pain

But don't mind me - I'm on pain medication for my broken ankle. (non moto related of course)   [coffee]

So I was on some country roads in Southern Ohio yesterday and blew by a squid on a early 90's 750 Ninja.  He was only wearing shorts, tennis shoes, and a t-shirt but the 6 or 7 year-old on the back was wearing a tank top, shorts and flip-flops and oh yeah a Half-helmet that was waaaay to big for her.

The guy had the audacity to flip me off as I passed him at like 75mph.  I wanted to stop him and punch him in the face for putting the little one in danger like that.

Side note:  Passed another squid on a gixxer wearing no helmet and a t-shirt.  Did have jeans and boots on.
I stopped at the next stop sign and waited for him. (He was going really slow through the turns).  When he pulled up he was like "Nice bike, what is it like a 900?"  I said, "No man, its just a air cooled 620" His reply was "Oh man, thats small." to which I returned "Better to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow right?"
Took him a minute to get it but the look on his face when he did was priceless.

That, right there, is priceless.

Well at least he got it, most of them don't.
