the thing he got penalized for in 2011, sure.  but in general hard passes and defensive riding?  there's not a enough of it.

marco, may he rest in peace, was a ton more douchey by that measure the first half of 2010.  marquez may have nearly pedro-le mans'd some riders.. marco actually did it.

i feel like the fact that 'motogp is boring' has made many of you forget that this is historically a contact sport.

i feel like the fact that 'motogp is boring' has made many of you forget that this is historically a contact sport. 
But he's Spanish...

hence he has no personality and can't get away with douchiness.

hard racing is one thing...making a mistake and taking someone out is forgivable.

His 'style' isn't either of those.

I wonder what it was was like with all the different machinery out there...if they alternated classes out or if it was a go out as you like which meant a WSBK coulda been followed by a MotoGP bike while a CRT was chasing them both or anything like that...

to be fair, 1) we really don't know what their testing program is, and 2) it looks like the world superbike guys have had a couple-day head start on test/setups.

In Indy this year Marc rode his bike in the grass after he won waving to spectators up-close.  For that, having been at indy then, I have a soft spot for him. 
I expect lots of contact sport and for Marc to have some podium positions for sure.
But being Rossi and Dovi fan, I hope they do well.  Then Dani and Cal.

The prototypes should have been able to spank the WSBK bikes within half a day. It does look like the GP13 is slightly better than GP12, but these times show that superbikes are running way too close to the big boys.

The 1199 looks to be a huge bust so far. I would like to hope that it's just that the riders that are used to the 1198 have to adjust their style, but I won't hold my breathe.

Maybe not...Thursday times:

Times - SBK: 1. Melandri (BMW) 1'40"816 (50 laps); 2. Checa (Ducati) 1'41"840 (58); 3. Davies (BMW) 1'42"716 (70); 4. Badovini (Ducati) 1'44"529 (64). STK: 1. Neukirchner (Ducati) 1'44"426 (56); 2. Canepa (Ducati) 1'45"256 (28); 3. La Marra (Ducati) 1'45"526 (57).

A second slower than Melandri, but quite an improvement.

 Hope the P gets up to speed.
It's the GP13 I'm worried about.
With times like that they'll have to dumb down the SBKs. I 'spose it's fair to examine Ducati SBK Vs Ducati GP times and if the gap is acceptable for each marque.

At the risk of being naive/overly simplistic....if the Panigale is using something very similar to the GP "frame" then that must be the biggest constraint on performance, cause the GP engine is much more powerful than the Panigale engine.
