Hi guys, I recently moved from an open garage in an apartment  building to a house with a closed garage. After a ride I always park inside the garage and a few minutes after the smell of gas fills the garage. Is this normal ? 2011 monster 796

Do you fill up before coming home? Might just be a slight draining from the overflow hole at the gas cap when the bike is on the side stand.

Every now and again I'll notice a small overflow puddle under my bike once it's on its side stand, always after trying to get more fuel into the tank than it needs (slight over fill).

Should be nothing to worry about but, to be safe, check all your hoses and connections for leaks and/or cracks.

Don't think it happens after filling up but I will check the hoses and tank cap :-/

if i try to get more gas than she needs, (talking abt amounts that the gas cap will touch the fuel when closed) my check engine light will go on! 2012 M1100evo.

I haven't filled to where the cap touches so no check engine light for me. It's basically just under the cap which can be enough to spill over if the bike is on the side stand immediately after a fill up.

Not sure how the fuel system hooks up to the "bladder" on the 796 either, but it might be a good idea to make sure everything is torqued to spec in that department too.

Do you still have your emissions canister? if not and venting to the atmosphere that could be your answer. Another option is that: have toy service the motor lately ? Maybe your dealer put a little more mixture to your fuel trimmer, happend to me, too

Raw gas smell or gassy exhaust smell?

Not raw for sure but maybe like a lean exhaust fume. And they did take my canister off on my first service, the engine was acting up and they recommended removing it. Should I have them add it back ?

cmejia1978

the fumes that were going to the canister are now going to the atmosphere, no you are not going to pollute more or less... so that could be the odor...  [coffee]

You should stay away from the Mexican food :P

Do you have a stock exhaust set up or is it after market?

I bought my used 2011 696 with a custom exhaust (which was very poorly installed) in November last year. I smell gas even if I'm sitting at a light at idle for a few seconds. I asked the guys at the shop if it was the mixture and they said to staying within regulations they couldn't adjust it any more and that the cause of the smell is the exhaust itself.

If your setup is aftermarket that might have something to do with it, it's just hopefully not as... fragrant as mine.. :/

They couldn't adjust it because they had to stay with in regulations? regulations of what? Where are you located?

you're running rich, likley.

Give us a complete break down of all the mods on the bike.
Do you have a Powercommander? Ducati Performance ECU, etc etc. What exhaust is it?
