What am I doing wrong?

When taking a wider turn at speed (40 mph or so) on my 696, I've noticed lately that the handlebars are weaving while I'm in the turn.  I'm looking through the turn, counter steering, and maintaining speed through the turn.  ???

Could be suspension set-up. 696 is non adjustable. Might be worth while to see what your sag values are and go from there.

You feel a change in pressure through the bars?

Quite possible you need a little TLC on the monster. Dunno what miles you have on it, but the forks might need a refresh.

Have you had the front wheel off before this begin? Could be you got alignment wrong.

Checked the torque on the steering head nut? Could be the bearings are settling in and you've got play in the head.

If you're getting push back through the bars, it's probably a tech question vs you as the rider
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

This is on my new Monster.  I have a little over 4000 miles on.  The bike hasn't been messed with since the 600 mile service.

I'm aware is on the new bike.

You didn't answer my question on how it feels, in more detail

Still sticking with steering head bearing torque as my off the cuff

Have you become faster?

That could challenge the suspension more than it can handle without misbehaving a little.

Incorrect tire pressure?

Even at a few bars off will cause some vagueness and possible weaving.

Tire pressure was low (zero) on the rear tire and low (20 psi) on the front.  I need to check pressure more often, I used to do it once a week, it's been over a month since I checked it last.

Wow. Good reminder to check the pressure before a ride. Might keep a close eye on the rear to ensure you don't have a pin hole leak

Lieutenant Dan

This once happened to me on a 695. My rear tire had a slow leak from the valve and I failed to keep it topped up every time I rode.  Got some wicked wobble going around a turn. Scared the SH!T outta me... :o  Keep up with those tires! [thumbsup]
