I started putting a chart of rotor interchangability together...I didnt get into axle sizing...but its something.

Like I said.  Its a start.  Also, Id love for this to take off into an "official part interchangability" thread (or something like that) in the DIY or toutorials section.  So if anyone has more stuff to contribute (ahem, Raux..), send it my way and Ill update it.  (goes for wheels, swingarms, brakes, forks, triples, or anything else that might help people make projects easier by using off the shelf parts)

a really important one to add to your chart is that the 998r had 320mm 15mm 6bolt rotors!! just the thing for a 999 fork in early/mid monster conversion. and yes they are damn hard to find, but if your purchasing aftermarket it is a good thing to know.

You are correct.

However, if you're *really* dead-set on some wheel swapping, I've heard of 2 different guys in Europe who have put CBR600 wheels on Monsters.  If doing a google-search won't help you, I know I can't...  But I've seen it.  Those are 6-spoke wheels.

i bought this up with johann at moto motivo as he has f2/f3 wheels in an older cb thingy on his site and he said they're heavy.  the later 3 spoke wheels are probably lighter.  lots of the japanese 600/1000 wheels are 3 spoke it seems.  and pricey s/h

Are these the S4 wheels?

Front
Cast Aluminum OEM 5-spoke : 8 lb 15 oz
Rear
Cast Aluminum OEM 5-spoke : 15lb 7 oz. 15 lb 3 oz

And these the OEM 3 spokes on the 695?

Rear
Skinny 3-spoke OEM : 14 lb 1 oz

If they are then the swap really isn't worth it unless you really want 5 spokes. A little depressing, i found some S4 wheels.

Yes, those were S4 wheels, and 3-spokers same as what's on a 695.

Granted, the rear is a bit over a pound heavier, but the front is about 2.5 pounds lighter, and *that* you will definitely notice.

[laugh]

IIRC, I weighed both of those wheels at the same time, and a visual inspection didn't find any reason.  ???

Well...quick mental juggling act and comparison of densities revealed that one of them is definitely not magnesium while the other is aluminum.  Because assuming they both came from the same mold and the heavy rim is aluminum, an identical mag wheel would be like 7.5lbs (Im really f-ing bored ok?)

Perhaps they made a minor change in the casting from one model year to another?

They were both definitely OEM aluminum wheels.
