Hi Dave, tag along for sure, though We are on weather watch at the moment.most rides are usualy weather depedant, if it is too wet we don't  ride.
Check in over the weekend / Sunday morning to see what decision is made. But so far things aren't looking good %80 chance of showers Sunday Cry

Welcome Dave.

As Rob stated we are typically weather dependent. We have done a few rides in the wet ... but it is not the preference. If rain is certain the ride is generally called off ('officially'?) because most of us ride for pleasure and few of us get as much pleasure from riding in the rain.

I had considered calling the ride off early for a few reasons:
  • quite a few members have a big night planned tonight
  • would avoid all the second guessing and confusion in the morning
  • allows people to plan with certainty - i have had a few enquiries
  • everybody has the route map so you can go anyway

But considering how few 'organised' rides we have recently and how accurate weather forecasting has been ... I was reluctant to do so. Roads have copped a pounding the last couple of days, no doubt there will be a bit of debris on the roads and at the moment the heaviest rain (tomorrow) is forecast in the Hunter Valley which has been known to flood.

Anybody else interested in calling it off early? Definitely want to go regardless?

If not decided by the masses earlier and owing to my indecisive nature ... Jukie is likely to make the call cheeky

No riding in rain ?

Rob, refer to my post above.

Another problem we would have to contend with is people's confidence level can be effected a lot by the rain ... which could spread us out even more ... which will lead to more waiting around - which nobody wants to do in the wet.

The roads are relatively twisty, some quite narrow with coarse bitumen ... all of which become worse in the rain - particularly if you don't know the road. Although comfort and enjoyment is obviously a prime consideration ... safety is paramount.

Brian you may have missed it but discussion has moved away from the floats and back to the ride.

Hi from Jolly Olde England,

Cars when it rains and bikes for the sunny days of which we have very few... bang head

Heres a true story, I delivered a diavel up to Scotland last october, when I arrived at the customers home it was pizzing down so I asked if he would like me to back the van down to his garage to save the new bike getting wet, well he just smiled a told me to park the bike on the drive way as he was going to put a couple of hundred miles on it before night.

He then confided that if you don't ride in the rain when you live in Scotland then you'll never ride at all so just take care guys if you do ride in the rain and have a great day out.

This is a joke, and I'm talking about the weather, not Brian Wink
Thought we would at least see some sunshine today. and showers still predicted in the Hunter region Cry
Miska will be a non starter has post opp issues with his lobotomy,(swimmers ear opp)
Plus he will be at the parade helping Brian, Frock up.
Brian has a lot to take in Saturday night, so he will be a no starter as well.
Have been told tricolores were made only for dry perfect conditions as well.

I think you could safely can the ride with out too much disappointment, from this end.
though if for some miracle the weather gets a tad better and any ones desperate for run we could do something shorter?

On a slightly more serious note Betty, i'd make tomorrow a lay day and put it back a week or so. Sounds like there will be a couple of newbies tagging along too.
Make a decision tomorrow, 7am . If it gets put back a week or two then you may find a few more tagging along anyway.
