So my current cluster is broken and for years have been driving around not knowing my speed, it got smashed in a accident and cracked as well, so I was going to buy a new one still in the factory wrap.  What's the scoop on the ECU and how does one 'flash' this. I was reading old tech posts  on here about  in the past the bike had to be taken to Ducati to have it programmed but now it can be flashed for a small fee. I don't think I have any mechanic who is updated on such things where I live. I might have to take it to the city an hour away where there's a Duc dealership.  Any experts out there can explain this to me or should I just not buy a new one since the expense is intense. Is it worth it or should I just continue riding while still always looking behind me for cops.

Thanks.  Cool

There are a few dealerships that offer a mail-in flashing service...  a brand new dash is probably not cost effective for your bike.  I would choose either a used one or an aftermarket speedometer/dash thing like a trail-tech.

Another option might be one of these Trail Tech digital speedometer/tachs.   Never used one, but I've had them in mind for a couple of projects.  You can get a basic speedometer for well under $100 and the price goes up, way up, from there for various features.

But you do still need to re-flash the ECU to get rid of the immobilizer if your model has one.

i am in the process of fitting an acewell dash to a m400 2005, so when the bloody moto gadget indicator relay thing shows up i'll have to get into it.  i bought a connector to plug into the original dash one, so hopefully i'll be able to solder wires to it and make it look professional.

i have already reflashed the ecu to remove the immo, bike currently runs without dash.  but there's no indicators.

well I got a new cluster coming in the mail, brand new still in Duc box for way cheap.  Found an amazing diagnostics place.  They charge 195 for flashing. This place fixes clusters, makes keys, programs ECU's for...

Aprilia
Audi
BMW
BMW motorcycle
Buick
Cadillac
Chevrolet
Chrysler
Dodge
Ducati
Fiat
Ford
GMC
Honda
Hummer
Isuzu
Jaguar
Jeep
Land Rover
Lexus
Mazda
Mercedes
Mini
Moto Guzzi
MV Agusta
Piaggio
Plymouth
Pontiac
Porsche
Saab
Smart
Sprinter
Toyota
Vespa
Volkswagen
Volvo
Yamaha

Found them on another motorcycle forum while researching this subject.  Cheapest I found considering flashing in other places cost like 250.

I tell ya I'm about ready to check into one of those digital ones because I just got another busted instrument panel in the mail again for the second time. Embarrassed It's the same break as the one I sent back last year to this guy who said it wasn't broken when he sent it.

The needle is sideways always on the right side, making it look like a factory defect then shipping issue. It's out and jammed sideways between the glass and the face of the panel. I now have to send this one back or try to pull the lens off and put it back in.  I think I've read on here how others have taken apart the round lens and replaced the plastic. This is frustrating, mind you this was still in the factory Duc box wrapped tight in plastic and the needle was defective.

I get the feeling the seller knew it was like that but lied in the advertisement and how can one be so cruel and make it sound new.
Okay so what would you do..call the guy you bought it from tell them and send it back, get a refund, or just try to fix it.

Or maybe they come that way...who knows..it seems every time I buy one its the same story. Why would Ducati sell parts that are defective.. Do they expect you to just put the needle back on before you put it on your bike..wtf. It just seems odd that a part in a box would be like this..or maybe again it is shipping. Hence the thing was floating in bubble wrap tight as a drum in the box it was sent.. I don't drink but things like this make me wanna  drink
