Paso 750 Concept (Sick idea won't leave me be)

Ever had an idea that just will not leave you be? An idea that will possibly lead you into a world of pain?
It will not leave me be.
I admit that I am quite impressed with Massimo Tamburini's 750 Paso. Comfy sport touring, plush low seat, light weight air cooled simplicity, twin side oil coolers with air ducting, ignition/battery/etc under the seat, just carb and airbox under tank, external fuel pump, integrated mirrors and indicators, eccentric chain adjustment, remote shock preload.
What if I put a 900SS/Monster engine in there with 17 inch wheels, better front end and brakes? I would leave the stock pistons in so any old fuel was good and run the Weber carb with a fuel pressure regulator or FCRs.
Anyone done this? Surely someone has? Or would it be better to modify a carbed 900SS to tour?
For reasons I won't go into the ST series is out. Maybe just posting this will purge it from my consciousness.

from one end to the other, pasos are just crap. delusional people waste money and time trying to convince themselves otherwise. and they're not cheap for some bizarre reason. they should be.
the 907 is what you describe pretty much.
get a 900ss, better bike, not unique, etc.
or an st2. it's a tourer after all.

Indeed, you've described a carbureted 907.
I've not had my hands on many Pasos, but they're not very friendly to work on.
And put the thought of that automotive carburetor out of your head.
According to Ian Falloon, the factory had to do significant mods to the frame and forks to put the big motor in the Paso with the 16" wheels, and again to put the 17's on the 907.
Front tire to head interference was the issue.
But..... the Paso wingnuts seem to be able to convert to the 17's.

I test rode an ST4 and it didn't fit the Missus and myself at all. Seat, bars, pegs all felt wrong. It really surprised me. She felt more secure on the Monster right behind me and not so high. Too tall for us both. Strange, I thought an ST2/4 would be perfect. I was real comfy on a 907ie. Missus likes the Hypermotard seat the best! I cant touch the ground!
It would certainly be less painful to modify a 900SS to tour. Raise the bars up the forks with 999 Masters to clear the fairing, seat redone to suit us both, FCRs, airbox, stock internals, drop the passenger pegs (98+ SS passenger pegs might do it) and lower custom pipe. Luggage rack. Done.
Just need something for weekend trips, no camping, light luggage (just motels). We are nearly empty nesters now.

All that and the SS looks better!
I've been reading Falloon's book, pity the Paso was not executed well, some good ideas there.

Don't go there, too much hassle just w 17" conversion.
But do give the 907 a try, I don't regret it.

I believe Ducati proved car carburetors don't work on motorcycles with the Paso. IMO the 900SS is quite comfy.

The *ONLY* Paso to consider is the 907i.e. That's it. All others are much more crappy. (BTW: 907 is injected, has hot-ish cams, better suspension and already has 17" wheels w/good Brembo brakes).
But, the Paso-ists know that the 907 is the one to obtain so the prices are high. So high in fact, that they often eclipse the better ST bikes. I saw an ST4 here in New Mexico last fall for $3200 in yellow w/all the bags. Also saw a blue '01 ST2 last summer here in New Mexico for $3000.
(I mention New Mexico b/c we don't have many Ducati's at all... So if I can find those deals even here, you need to look at the ST's.)

There has been what I have to assume is the same Paso bought and sold in Western Pa and NE Ohio over the two years...about every other month or so I get a call from the newest owner that thinks he got the deal of the decade at @$1000.00. He proceeds to describe the same issues and needing the same parts that I explained were not available to the previous owner a few weeks prior...
The bikes are complete crap... The Porsche 924 of the line up! That being said....it would be pretty cool to take one, gut it of all its crap (which is plentiful) and turn it into something cool...
If ANYONE can...KoKo is the man!
