Maybe a stupid question...but what's the best way to clean old pad material from rotors?

Normally I wouldn't bother, but I'm switching over to carbon pads (race bike) and they recommend it if other pad compounds were used before.

A rotor hone.

BrakeTech sells 'em.

Flex Hone - what braketech is selling. Might be a local place to snag one.

Probably a stupid question, but is there any way to do this without removing the rotors from the wheel? From all I've read about re-installing them it seems to be (1) pretty critical and (2) a bit error-prone (rotors getting warped etc. during re-installation).

I don't think you could reach the inside surface without removing them. I've never had a problem removing and reinstalling rotors though...didn't think it was a big deal. I just tighten the bolts in an opposite pattern like you do wheel lug nuts. Maybe ignorance is bliss though!  [laugh]
