Do some research and look at the posts from Journeyman. He lives down that way and has plenty of info on some great roads that are not so heavily traveled as the dragon. Few years back, rode from DC to Charlotte to the Dragon. While the Dragon was cool, many of the roads we took to get from Charlotte to the border area were awesome!

Roggie: Yeah it is TT's.  Great little place.  I really like it there.  What part of MI are you from?  What did you buy there?

I'm in the Southfield area.
I'm on my second monster (s4rs) from TT.  Yes, great little family owned place indeed.
I'm actually planning on dropping off my bike there tomorrow for a belt change. I'll check in on your new ride for you!

I think i am going to pick it up on Saturday.  (Hopefully)!

Nice bike, man. For what it's worth the Dragon is overrated, not that it is not a fine road but there are a multitude of other fine roads in the area that are not so heavily travelled.  Police

When I bought my first Ducati my wife asked, "How are you going to get it home?"

...dumb broad.

Oh gotcha!  I have always lived here and haven't really had the chance to experience better roads.  I live in Waterford, about an hour directly north of Detroit.  I ride woodward a lot.  My fiancĂ© and I are going to visit a few cities in NC when she finishes school.  We have friends that live there and love it.
You don't say what cities in NC, but if one of them is Asheville, suggest you spend a few days there and use it for a base to ride mountains in all directions. As for the Blue Ridge Parkway, my favorite stretch is from Boone through Asheville and out to Mt. Pisgah. On several tours down there I used the Crowne Plaza in Asheville because you can get a room on the first floor out back where you can park the bikes just outside your sliding glass door and the hotel should be fairly secure. http://binged.it/11Z4W83

Slide's suggestion of Journeyman is good too for some local knowledge. I believe Asheville has an established Ducati dealer as well. Just be aware it can be wet in those mountains! Wink

Awesome! Thanks guys!  It is 12:19am and i am so stoked that i am not even tired after a long day at work.

I did have a question for you all.  I have read A LOT about the 14T front sprocket.  The salesman said on the 2013 the gearing is not as tall as it used to be.  I guess I will know tomorrow when i ride it home but, JW, is it better to swap the 15 out up front or do it the other way and swap the rear and get a new chain?  Just curious.  Thanks!!

Shorter gearing on the 2013? Sounds like salesman's BS which is disturbing since I was a high-line vehicles salesman myself for 40 years... Have him show you the internal gearing change on paper to back that up. A local Evo rider here and previous Ducati owner popped on a 14T before picking up his new bike, just as I did on my 796.

The 14T is a cheap mod and runs fine as long as your chain isn't adjusted too tight and kept well lubed. Yes, 3 teeth in the rear would be better, but do that when you replace sprockets and chain @ 15,000+ miles.

If you want a 14T, have them do it while you wait and don't take any guff about waiting for the first service. If anything, it's going to make it easier for you to get to know your bike at lower speeds while it's breaking in and coughing now and then. Break-in takes 1,200 - 1,500+ miles BTW as the engine gets progressively smoother. Run non-ethanol too if you can find any near you. Here's MI. Seems like a fair amount. http://pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=MI

Skip the dragon,  There is WAY to much stupidity on that road.  Lots of truckers, cops and bikes sliding into your lane.  IMHO it is a stupid place to ride unless it is midnight ( :
