Has anybody had the heads on a 2v 800SS/S2R ported/polished, the valves done etc? Are there piston kits available?

I hear of 2v 1000 heads being done but not the 800's.

Why you ask - I plan on keeping this bike until I blow up or it does. It would be nice to have the meanest 800 around.

i had my heads ported and polished, so you can get behind me as far as the meanest 800cc around goes... Grin
Obviously, i have not gone as far as MBP.

Who did your head work and did it make a difference in any regard?  - Was it worh it?

There are quite a few people who have done work on the 800s... Pistal has HC pistons available. Give Mark at Ducshop a call, he can do what you need.

My local shop. I have and open air box, Spark midpipe, and cored cans.....so it is possible that the head work has made a slight difference, but i have not had it dynoed. I can tell you that the bike sounds different now. Most noticable at idle, the bike has a more defined 'pop' to the exhaust note.

So you can see the results
Why would you pay money for something and no know what you gained
My local shop (den Biggelaar) does dyno's for 30$

Sounds like a great place, how much did your heads cost to be ported & polished , then dynoed twice?
Why would you pay money for something and no know what you gained
because i am not racing, nor am i bragging about how much horse power i have, which is small anyhow compared to an inline 4 at 800cc. If i can't feel the difference then it is money waste, i don't care what the dyno says.
My local shop (den Biggelaar) does dyno's for 30$
dyno for $30? i would check their credentials. Dyno runs, when done correctly, are very tedious and take several hours to generate baseline runs and then custom maps. Perhaps $30 is just to strap the bike to the bench to see what it has initially? ...ie. no mapping.
I payed $200 for the heads to be done. They were already off the bike so no mechanical time for removing them. $200 is cheap, he wanted $500 and i said no, finances were tight. Well his winter was slow, so he then came back with a $200 offer...i agreed. I have had a few sets of trained eyes look at the work while the engine was torn down, and all agreed it was a nice job.
The bike does have a snappier response now, along with the new crisp sound.

wow! i'm not much...actually not at all...mechanically inclined but even for me $200 sounds cheap. i'd have to pay more, i guess as my bike would go "as is"

porting the heads and improving flow is always a good thing. it is not always the biggest bang for the buck,  but you can see gains in hp and efficency (fuel economy, yeah thats why we do it) waytogo

$200 is cheap for good porting so good job and if you are happy with the results who careswhat the other bike got.

bang for the buck (normally not compared to $200 ports jobs ) light flywheels and big bore kits or hi comp pistons add noticeable gains. set squish while you are in there and degree the cams and off you go.

My 851 heads got full porting and big valves and the bike picked up 50miles of range onthe tank as well as more hp and the way it pulls at high rpm, porting is nice.
