Don't let the speed thing bother you Marmaduc,It's a social ride, We all ride at our own pace, no  need to keep up with the faster guys , we all regroup at various places.
Most off us want to get home with our licences intact Lips Sealed

Not only that being restricted to 80k your still going to be faster than Betty Grin

As Rob said Marmaduc, don't make your decision of not coming because you think you won't be as fast as others. We do try to run a proper marked corner ride when we go out to unfamiliar territory. And this will be unfamiliar for pretty much all of us so the will be a lot of corner marking which will mean the general pace will be down anyways.

That and the fact that it's been an age since there has been a well attended group ride.
So do come along meet a new group of people and have a ride.

Been looking for an opportunity to meet everyone and being a relatively 'newby' like yourself, more than happy to just cruise along at a reasonable click.

It's penciled on my calender, and really looking forward to it.

What are the speed limits on these roads anyway? Old Pac is only 60, so being restricted to 80 won't matter for that part at least.

OK, well it does sound like fun, so count me in at this stage. Thanks for the encouraging replies, you sound like you take your safety seriously ... been noticing some crazy cagers on the roads.

Nor getting one knee down and trying to clean up and many people as possible.

I'll be working in Adelaide, and was going to take the bike with me, but I'm not sure now.

 put me in as tentative, i'll be more qualified to make a decision once ive got the project ticking over.

We do try to run a proper marked corner ride when we go out to unfamiliar territory.

I think a review the concepts around corner marking ahead of the ride would be worthwhile..  (just remembering THAT south ride with the knobs)

a number of us are familiar with the following.
  • Designated Lead Rider sets pace and points to corner for marking
  • Second Rider (without exception) pulls over and marks the corner (The Marker)
  • The second rider may take it upon themselves to mark a corner if they feel it's necessary/the path is unclear
  • The Marker pulls over to the left of the road immediately BEFORE the corner and uses their indicators to signify which direction the pack should turn
  • The Marker stays on the corner until the designated sweep passes through
  • The Marker must immediately overtake the sweep
  • Rinse/Repeat

In order for this to work, everyone has to play along.
  • Overtaking the Lead is a no-no.
  • Overtaking within the pack is fine. (safely, of course)
  • If anyone needs to "bail out" during the ride, it needs to happen (ideally) at designated stops..
