Author Topic: Triple clamp installment - Shouting out to all of you that have installed this  (Read 2184 times)

Have been playing with the thought of change to clip ons, but also in the same operations, replacing the triple clamp with a new from speedy moto.
For the time being, I´m gonna keep the oem forks and just buy clamp that fits, without any SBK conversion.

Feel like a dumbass right now, but can I just buy the triple clamp as it is, and just start installing?  waytogo

I have been reading several post in here and other monster forums... and its mentioned some places that i have to replace the racers in the steering head?
 

I believe this is because the part comes with tapered bearings.. and what i understand, its a bit tricky job if i don´t have the right tool.. Does anyone know what kind of tool i should use? A clever way to remove the old races?

As mentioned i have read several triple clamp posts but can´t find the right answers that i hope for. I feel like some of the veterans in here are probably fed up with the same threads and questions, but use your jedi force and help us unfortunate ones  Wink
So any pointers of what i need of tools, parts and brains is appreciated Wink Pics are also welcome in this tread

 As the set comes with instructions, why don't you ask for a copy of them from Speedymoto? I'll bet they would be happy to email them to you, and then you could get a pretty good idea of what is involved.

The old races just tap out with a long drift similar to the races in a front hub on a RWD car.

You can use the old race, or a large socket  to tap in the new ones. It is not difficult at all.

I used a sink tailpipe to seat the bearing on the lower triple.

I keep an old race in my toolbox for this task.  It's split (with a grinder) to make it easier to remove once the new race is seated.

Thanks for the advise guys waytogo I did not see the replies before now, in meanwhile i was so stupid that i bought a park tool steering race remover. Anyway i´m sorted with the removal.

To install the races, i never thought of use the old ones to tap the shit in. Gonna try what you said ducpainter:)

nothing wrong with having the right tools.

also, a little trick for using the old one to tap the new one in: take a dremel (or hack saw) and cut a slit on the old one. This will allow the old to compress easily while your whacking it in, and make it easy to remove once the new one is seated.

Thanks for the advise. I´m thinking of getting a dremel, but not sure of which model i need vs want.
Any recommendations?
