ok, first off.... i dont do charcoal grills. not my preference. not interested.
what i am interested in is the following

1. propane heated
2. back yard type, not portable
3. stainless vs. other
4. reliability

i had a Weber for almost 10 years, and it was great, except for the wooden side shelf things, which required more maintenance than i gave them. this is leading me towards weber again, but they are pricey, and if i can get something of the same quality for less i am all about that.

Check out Charbroil, commerical series, stainless steel.  I like mine.

if the weber lasted you ten years, then consider its real cost amortized over that time period.  it may be one of the cheaper solutions.

i have a weber.  my folks have a weber.  they are still quality products.

we have a weber... the side shelfs are no longer made of wood.
ours is a stainless model without the side burners, it's been outside since 2004, and it looks brand new.
we did spend extra $ on the weber cover, and it was well worth it.

btw... the grill has been knocked over by a big black bear and sustained no damage  [thumbsup]

good luck!!

Do yourself a favor and buy one with a rotisserie. Then go shoot/buy yourself some rabbit and some duck.

The 42" model with the rotisserie is my dream grill:

HATERS GONNA HATE.

I have a Weber Silver.  It's awesome and cooks great.  Side panels are now plastic.  Webers cost a bit more, but they last.

I have a Weber that my father in law gave us for a wedding present.  Great grill, ole reliable with no complaints.

One day a client asked if I wanted his used less than 5 times, double secret DCS grill in stainless steel.  The thing was beautiful, my dream grill.   He was moving to Cali and didnt want to schlep it.  Very cool dude.

It pained me to put ole reliable in the garage.  As hard as I tried, wasnt impressed with the DCS, ignitors suck, porcelinized grates suck, very distinct hot/cold spots and the thing ate propane.

The Weber outperforms the DCS in every category other then the SS cabinet.

Consider a third option, other than gas OR charcoal: wood pellets.  I have a Traeger Professional, http://traegerindustries.com, and it is a joy!!!  Love IT!!!  It also doubles as a smoker.  The thing is badass.  Smoky flavor, ease of gas.

Check it out.  Best of luck.

I use a Weber charcoal grill with chimney starters when I want some flavah or when Im smokin.

I bought a Weber Q series BBQabout 12 months ago, It was the biggest one in the range, we love that thing, it does an awesome roast, easy to maintain and clean.
And it's one of the rare (no pun intended) BBQ's in that I can cook right to the edge of the grill/cooking plates and they are hot across the whole surface, not like most BBQ's I have owned that are only good in the middle of the plate and everywhere else on the plate is only warm.

Very happy with that purchase!  [thumbsup]

I've got a Weber Silver and I love it...

However, consumer reports ranks the Vermont Castings ones slightly higher.

I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...

Yup...

Worked really well for the largish group, has provision for the rotisserie kit, which I didn't buy yet, and seems sturdy. It has the indirect burner for the rotisserie.

There aren't any plastic or wood pieces to melt/rot and it's all stainless except for the tub which appears to be powder coated and the grates which are heavy cast iron. I'd prefer it had a stainless tub.

It wasn't that bad compared to smaller/lesser units...I guess. $350 at Lowe's.

BTW...it uses fuel like an S4RS. ;D  It's rated at like 65,000 BTU [laugh]
