696 Clip Ons
«
on:
May 10, 2013, 06:01:59 AM »
Hello.
Now the exhaust is done and the rear sets ordered, I'm thinking about replacing the bars on my 696. I like the idea of lowering the bars a little, and was thinking of clips on under the top triple. I'm only a small guy, 5'5" roughly, but have guessed it'll be ok.
I've found the Woodcraft set, but I don't want the extra part bolted onto the original riser, it looks ugly to me. Ideally I'd like to clip onto the shocks directly under the top triple. Has anyone got any experience of this mod?
Cheers.

Are you referring to this item
http://www.woodcraft-cfm.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=12-16
- I'd really call those modular handle bars, not clip ons
Proper clip ons clamp directly to the fork legs and would be like so:
http://www.woodcraft-cfm.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?search=action&category=OOOX
or
http://store.speedymoto.com/ducati-monster-adjustable-riser-clip-ons-p219.aspx
Mounting them under the top triple isn't uncommon - just ensure you get some with a bit of rise. I know the woodcraft are set up some you don not need to remove the top triple to mount them under. Looks like the no rise speedy moto are as well, but the tall-boy photos look like they would need the removal of the triple *BUT* the photos might be a touch dated, as they have been doing a good bit of updates and changes to their clip-on line, so a call to speedy would be best to confirm

Lovely, thanks for the help. I'll contact Speedy Moto now. It looks like the risers are available separately, so I'll order a couple of sets just in case.
What did you do to plug the holes where the standard riser attaches?

I just left the rubber isolater mounts there. The pic is kinda glared. Or you can always push them out.

Search on the forum for install experiences with these, the Woodcrafts on my 796 required substantial cutting and grinding of the cast aluminum headlight rim to allow clearance. Your 696 will likely have similar issues but it seems everyone's experience is a little different.

Interesting, I was going to get it powder coated anyway so that can happen pot install.
I was looking at the Speedy Moto ones anyway now, they look a little more interesting. Problem is shipping costs to the UK then import tax on top.

I've gone for the SpeedyMoto tall boys, should look good with my Rizoma mirrors which are also on order. I'll post pictures.

I had this same experience and couldn't be happier really. the grinding on the headlight cover was simply done. I tried the top adapter set first and didn't like it. real coupons are the way to go.
