Yes, straight pipes sound nasty. But its kinda sharp. HD straights sound different than our bikes. More "rounded", less sharp.
You can cut and core your stock cans. Shorter will be louder. However with less airflow resistance from reducced or lack of packing the air velocity will be messed up. Same goes for straight pipes but worse. Trust me, i did lots of experimenting trying to get a decent street performance out of straight pipes.
Low end torque will suffer but top end *may* improve. But i doubt you spend much time at WOT.

It may seem like a power boost bc it sounds meaner and you will be throttle giddy. But power is less.
Most HD guys running drag pipes dont realize how much more hp could be had with a good exhaust.

That said i am running DM conicals and they are loud but not obnoxious.

Here is a great vid by S&S about exhaust tuning. Its about HD's but all the theories apply across the board, IMO.

I had stainless Forrza low pipes.  They were relieved of the fiberglass inside.  The sound was wicked.......not in a boomy sort of way, more like top fuel dragster.

I missed the Bass which is why I switched to Fresco conical highs.

Wow!
FWIW, I have a set of lollipop baffles in the mid-pipes just after the end of the headers. I do notice a difference. If i could afford a *real* set of pipes I probably wouldnt need them. Mine are a bolt with a washer welded on top

Ducati Performance 'Conti-replica' megaphones.

Either are borderline ear-bleeders.

Like the ones that are on BP's Tostapane?

Not really helpful, as I believe he's out of business - but ARC Fabrication - Doug Cook set of megaphones on an S2R1000 were rather ear shattering.

FWIW i toyed with the idea of some DANMOTO GP-style cones... but being concerned about the made-in-chinaness and the customer service, etc., i am going instead with some MIVV titanium ovals.

they may not be earth-shattering, but i believe they will be loud, sans baffles, and provide decent back-pressure...

cheers chug

So what do you guys think of these end caps? Machined from billet aluminum, they will bolt to Titanium cones. Bolt pattern is the same so you could change the look if you wanted. Ti cones are 13" long, 2in" OD on the small end and 4" OD on the large end. I could also do a full Ti reverse meg. They will be loud Grin

CHOP IT YOURSELF! i may actually do that -- i want to go for more of a mad-max kind of look, after seeing/hearing what jamie robinson did to his cbr on ``RIDE APART''

Digging the hooligan-flat tracker style. Roland Sands (RSD) makes some killer bikes.
