I ike to mount them transversly under the triples. I'm not too brand loyal, but my son LOVES the Ohlins unit. I find the side mounts get damaged in crashes.

The one good thing about side mount is the greater oil capacity. They are more precise that the smaller volume top mount. I doubt many of us will notice this difference though!

Anyone have a Scotts on their Monster?  Loved mine on my R6...

I have a Scotts, but they only work for pre-immobilizer bikes as the immobilizer sending unit is somewhere near the ignition and the new ignition cover (in the Scott's kit) blocks the immobilizer signal. So no Scott units for the newer bikes. That said, I still really like mine. It's a little chunky, but I like the solid build and nutty adjustability of it (slow speed, high speed compression adjustment, and sweep range adjustment).

I went with the DP unit and it works wonderfully.  If you're not concerned about the cost then go for the cheapest one that looks good to you.  You can always "upgrade" later.  Anything is going to be better than nothing.  :)

Got a side mount and love it. Works very well all leaned over on the throttle in bumpy stuff.

Buy the way, everything gets damaged in a wreck. ;D

heading out tomorow to pick up a damper and mounting kit, hoping to get an Ohlins one that is suitable to mount across the ignition as i prefer this configuration, i can see them on the Ohlins Website and it seems they do both types for the Monster S4RS hop this is the case..
will post pics once completed

Sorry man, but Ohlins doesn't actually make a top mount kit for an S4RS or any S series Monster for that matter. Side mount only.

You can however make a kit yourself using an Ohlins late model yamaha r6 damper kit along with the Arrow mount brackets for s*r series monsters.

I have one of these on my bike currently and it works well. I am about to take it off and swap it out for a side mount Ohlins as I will be trading the bars for clip-ons. I know there are some pics on TOB of this set up on Stankbone's bike. I can send you pics of mine in a few days when i am back at home.

I'm going to be parting this kit out, so PM me if you want some or all of it.

I just installed the Ohlins Damper - with Motowheels Billet Under-Triple Mount on my 99 M900. I had never ridden a bike with a damper before. I really didn't expect it to make such a difference, but the bike feels less 'twitchy' / more stable whilst in a turn.

I suppose I am certainly a fan now. I could not give you a good comparison of this unit vs. others, and this mount vs. others, but if I was made out of money, I would certainly try several options to see what I like best.
