Arrow Steering Damper ... Removing the standoffs?

Hey gang -

Trying to remove my Arrow damper setup as part of the "great restockification of 2013"



Any ideas on how to get those standoffs ... off?  I'm guessing they screwed into the ignition bolts but oddly I've never installed a steering damper on an S2/S4R so I'm not too sure.

Pull the keyswitch shroud/antenna holder off, you'll need to unplug the antenna wire connector.

That may expose a hex on those standoffs, can't remember for sure.

If no hex, then it's vicegrips time.

Sweet, thanks for the quick response.  Been poking around, is it a pressure fit or are there some fasteners I have to take off?

Wiggle and pull should get the shroud off.
Unplug the wire first, and get some slack in it.
The antenna isn't very robust, and it's about $50.

I have the same setup.  IIRC the two posts hold the switch cover down.  I used thread locker on mine but I've had luck in similar situations locking two nuts (thin ones?) on the thread they will lock to the threads, and then loosen the bottom nut to unscrew the stud.

Yeah, that's what I figured.  I'm going to just leave them on ... that could lead to a rabbit hole I don't want to go down  [laugh]

I have tried everything to try and get the stand-offs off.  Vice grips keep slipping.  Do you guys have any other suggestions?  I am thinking of JB welding on a tab on to the stand-off or something to get some grip to try and turn the stand-off or take it to a dealer and have them do it.   Thanks for your help.

 How about 2 nuts jammed together with red lock tite?

Took my moto to the dealer and they gave me these easy steps to remove the stock stand offs.

Step 1 is to place on a temporary nut on the screw.


Step 2 is to replace the stock ducati nut.


Step 3 is to move the temporary nut back up so it tightens up against the ducati stock nut placed in step 2.  This locks the temporary nut from step 1 in place and you can continue twisiting and the stand off screw will eventually unscrew out.  Only keep the wrench on Step 1 nut.

Very simple and easy.

I didn't see his post before I went to the dealer so I figured I would share my personal experience with photos any way.  FYI, I didn't see any red lock tite to do the job I described.
