Fuel pump down M900

Salute,

So, there's no fuel pump hum anymore, and of course she won't start. The monster's ('01 M900 SEi, red, named Belarosa) fuel pump connector shows volatge on pin 2 (or 3, not sure where 1 is) when ignition on. Kick-stand does not seem to affect these measurements. Turns over very well thank you.

Prior to not starting, all was well except for occasional and intermittent and un-diagnosable aperiodic but instantaneously brief power stalls at speed. Stalls occured at street and highway speeds, cold and warm, annoying and maybe hazordous, but not debilitating..1/100 mi.

Last ride prior to hard fail, start-up was odd. Leaving work, would not start and no fuel-pump hum several minutes. Then got hum, started, rode home, one 'brief' drop out en route.

Got home but hasn't started since.

Since I see some voltage, I'm thinking fuel pump is dead and needs to be pulled--messy.

How can I prove the fuel pump is dead or not? Is there anyway to know that if I replace the pump (sure, filter too) that I can expect everything to start working again? Do I really need a professional mechanic for this?

Thoughts? Thanks!
