'05 620 Low Idle problem

I have an '05 620 Dark.  6K miles.  Valve adjustment is in a couple of weeks.  It idles around 700RPM.  Manual wants 1200.  It doesn't stall but it really sounds like it's going to and it's definitely too low.  The only dealer in my area has a single tech working there and he's always stoned.  He told me the idle is normal.  It's not.

If I keep the fast-idle on to maintain 1200 RPM, bike runs fine.  But the manual says don't do that.

There is some scattered information on these forums about adjusting idle on the fuel-injected bikes, but it seems to vary greatly by model and year (from 05 to 06, as my luck would have it).  The consensus seems to be that the fuel injectors need tuning to fix the idle.  Can anyone give me a definitive answer on whether I can even do that myself (do I need DDS?), and offer some instructions?  I'd greatly appreciate it.

You don't need the DSS, but, since the area's tech is 'stoned' you might want to look into a diagnostic tool and check your TPS.

In the meantime, you can increase the idle speed by opening the airscrews or screwing them out, a good starting point will be, screw them all the way in, count how many turns it took, btw, try to have engine warm to do this; then screw them out the same amount of turns they took to screw in, in half turn increments turn out each one, then give it a little gas, let the engine stabilize, check RPM, do this until you have the desired RPM at idle, fast idle closed . . .

Also, due to age of bike, check fuel filter, check the "Alternative to expensive Ducati parts" thread for generic fuel filter unless you want OEM, also check your spark plugs, if you are still running the ones that came with the bike, is time to replace them.

I had this issue sometime ago, did this, got my diagnostic tool, set my TPS and now she's running like a swiss automatic watch . . .

Also, already changed the fuel filter and put in new plugs.

Can you recommend a diagnostic tool that isn't super expensive?

99% probability that a proper valve clearance adjustment will solve the low idle.

That's one of the typical symptoms of out-of-spec valve clearances.
