This?

Or, this?

Do I want new-fangled SP or old-fangled SP for about the same price and suspension?

When is that darn duc truck coming around?

DRKWNG

For that bike?  Air cooled all the way.  Way more torque low down in the rev-range and MUCH simpler/cheaper maintenance.

Being faster than you thought possible…it feels good. No, screw thatâ€"it feels like shotgunning a gallon of adrenaline and chasing it with an all-night orgy aboard a burning Viking boat.

If you can find a new air cooled one, it should be a good bit less can't really see paying about the same. The new has ABS, ride my wire on the fly map changes and some other electronic farkles.

All that said, the air cooled version is probably the proper version of this bike - it's a hooligan tool and the air cooled plant suits it better

But, it's gotta cost less!
-Throttle's on the right, so are the brakes.  Good luck.

This is a big factor for me.

For the SP I'm getting quotes for about $200 - $300 less. Maybe I'll try to haggle a bit.

I say....buy what makes you smile more!

Which would be the air cooled bike, as the cheaper maintenance leads to more gas money.   ;D

An 1100 Sp for a couple hundred less than the 821 SP? That's not right

I bet the 821 is lighter and smoother and punchier than we all think in comparo to the 1100

Lighter by 1kg. The 821 is rated at 110 Hp vs the 97 of the 110, but gives up 14 Nm of torque in the bargain. The new plant does spin up higher of course

A customer brought in an 821 for lowering, as they were 5'4".

I sat on it, and could just flat foot it both sides.
I'm 6'1".
It's quite tall for a street bike.

I rode it a bit, just city streets for a mile maybe.
The cable clutch had an easy pull, but absolutely zero feel.
Stalled it 4x trying to get away from stops.
The FBW throttle assembly feels odd, very different spring feel from usual cable/TB or cable/carb.
The computer was doing things in the background with the throttle.
Perhaps I'd get used to it over time, but my first impression wasn't good.

Ride one before you buy.

Yeah, I am hopeful the duc truck comes around soon. But I risk losing the opportunity to buy a 1100 EVO SP (new) while I wait.

I don't consider myself a Luddite, but I'm adverse to TC and ABS and Power Modes. I like bikes for what they are and learning to ride each one based on its purpose and character. Electronics rob me of this opportunity.

Did I just make a decision? Let's see what tomorrow brings...

Agreed. TC I'm OK with, but ABS - I dunno. Fly-by-wire - I really don't know. While I like all the technology being put into bikes every year, I can't help but wonder what happens when you break down and what are the maint. costs? An extra cable, etc. can be carried on you or easily had / replaced, but an ECU + wiring harness + etc etc?

Plus, as motorcycles get more and more high tech, will they become boring? Probably not, but then...

Rode with a guy on an MV F4RR last summer and saw his traction control go nuts while the bike was cranked over in a turn.  It didn't seem very boring for him when TC went on/off/on/off as he got on the throttle.   ;D
