Sport Classic 1, Toyota 0
«

On the snake, an unwise move from a toyota in the pull off leads to a collision with a sport classic. Shockingly, the bike ends up mostly ok, and the car gets all buggered up.
Arm chair quarterbacking, it doesn't seem like the SC rider used the front brakes at all or very little, and he had room to evade. But, youtube makes experts of us all...

Isn't this more of a Riding Techniques thread?

I debated. But decided it was more of a crash up video.
I/we could point fingers at it technique or lack of... but i figured car bits all over were more interesting.
So, I won't cry if you move it. But I did actaully think it through before posting to Gen Mon

1) rider went where he was looking.
2) He had not much room left or he would have ended up in the gravel pebbles on the edge of the road.
3) Car should not have been making the maneuver that they were attempting.

I don't know how the car didn't see him coming with those shiny fork reflectors.

Toyota build quality ain't what it used to be....either that or they are beuilt to be torn apart at a simple impact for higher impact repair costs...

It didn't crumple, it fell off.

It didn't crumple, it fell off.
So it exceeded expectations.

The whole front of the car being the bumper cover? The bumper cover that was
designed and engineered
to absorb and deflect crash energy?
If this was an older vehicle with metal bumpers (or even a new truck) the motorcycle
and
rider would have been worse off.
That Bumper Cover and Energy Absorber (that was the long black thing the camera guy picked up) did the precise job they were built to do. The vehicle is hardly a "POS"

You can thank the gubmint for mandating that the bumper cover & foam absorber doing exactly as they are supposed to in that type of an impact.
Google 5MPH bumper regulation for some good reading on the matter.

oh, I fully know...but they are also by design supposed to take impact towards the car and the retainer bracketry on most is meant to give way with any impact force...but I just haven't seen one practically pop off in the manner like that one did...usually it takes some good "ripping" force in that kind of impact if designed/assembled properly.

Panicked when she realized she'd pulled out infront of someone and jammed the brakes as her only reaction
