Hi everyone. Looking for some advice. I just bought a brand new 696 a couple of weeks ago. I rode a demo first then took the bike I was to purchase out before I paid. When I took it for the test ride it seemed to perform well. I'm a completely new rider but everything seemed ok to me. However, when the bike was delivered and I took it out for the first time I noticed that the shifter wasn't returning after I shifted. I'd go up into 2nd and I'd have to tap it back down before lifting up to go to third. I took the bike back to the dealer and they fixed the problem.

However, now I notice that when I shift it seems a little stiff. Instead of sliding into gear like the demo I rode at the dealer, I pull up with my foot until I feel some tension, then it kind of stops. I add a significant amount of extra force and *CLACK* it goes into gear. It's only really noticeable up to third gear.

I'm wondering if this is normal part of break in, or is there something wrong? Does everyone monster sound like this and I just didn't notice it on the demo bike?

Thanks!

If you'd like to try something else than wait for it to loosen up, you can remove the shift lever pivot bolt - apply some grease and remove one/both of the O-rings. It'll be less tight and it might help.

it will loosen up

Yup, this...

Normal break in.

Congrats on the new ride!

Thanks folks :). One recommendation I heard was to switch to full synthetic oil after my first oil change? Anyone done this?
